Short Back & Sidewalks is a free hair-cutting service for members of the community in need. We work alongside service providers across Australia, providing friendly and attentive hair-cutting experiences with some of Australia’s best hairdressers and barbers as our volunteers. Short Back & Sidewalks currently operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Victoria. Our service goes beyond just giving free haircuts; we create meaningful connections through conversations with clients, and create visibility for some of the most marginalised community members in Australia.

We’re finalists! Short Back & Sidewalks has been named a finalist for the 'Trailblazing Small Organisation' category at the Community Services Excellence Awards. This award recognises small organisations driving positive change through creative and impactful programs. Our Founder Craig is also a finalist in the individual category for 'Outstanding Contribution: Going Above and Beyond', so we are really excited to attend the awards night alongside all of the other fantastic finalists. As a dedicated volunteer with organisations like Orange Sky and Radio Lollipop, Lindsey's passion for creating positive change has left a lasting impact on our community. We’re proud to partner with TONI&GUY Australia to provide free haircuts for those in need. Last week, TONI&GUY’s expert stylists from across Sydney launched our new monthly service at the Central Community Hub in the Sydney CBD, alongside our existing work at Foster House, Surry Hills. TONI&GUY Australia CEO Sara Langford said “It’s our personal, professional and social responsibility to partner with meaningful and like minded organisations like Short Back & Sidewalks”. “Our Salons are excited for the opportunity to utilise their skillset and give back to the local community”. A huge thank you to TONI&GUY Australia, including the teams at TONI&GUY Bondi Beach and TONI&GUY Mosman, as well as St Andrew’s Cathedral and Foster House (Salvation Army) for their support. Managing Director Ben Elliott, a former Short Back & Sidewalks Treasurer, has continued his incredible support of us after stepping down from the Board in 2023. Huge thanks to Ben, Tracey, Sash and the team who ensure our financial operations run smoothly.
