Today, on Harmony Day, we reflect on the strength and unity that come from embracing cultural diversity. At SisterWorks, we believe that every journey is unique, and every story matters. Our CEO, Ifrin, shares how we empower migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking women to turn opportunities into achievements and dreams into reality. Through employment and entrepreneurship, we’re not just shaping individual futures — we’re building stronger, more inclusive communities. As we celebrate Cultural Diversity Week, let’s remember that true harmony is achieved when we embrace and celebrate the richness of our differences. By fostering understanding and mutual respect, we can create a better future for everyone. Together, we are committed to shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and thriving world. #HarmonyDay #CulturalDiversityWeek #InclusionMatters #EmpoweringWomen #CommunityFlourishes #SisterWorks #WorkEmpowersWomen

About us
SisterWorks is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to empowering women from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker backgrounds through employment, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. Since 2013, we have supported over 3,000 women from 105 countries. Driven by the belief that every woman deserves economic independence, SisterWorks offers job readiness training, mentorship, and a marketplace for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. Through these resources, we help women build the skills, confidence, and networks they need to succeed. Guided by our values of respect, inclusion, and empowerment, we work to dismantle barriers and create opportunities where women can thrive—both in the workforce and in their communities. By providing a strong support system, we foster an environment where every woman can realise her potential and make a meaningful contribution to the broader economy.

We’re grateful to receive funding from Department of Social Services (DSS) as part of the Social Enterprise Development Initiative (SEDI) Capability Building Grants. This funding will strengthen our Employment Pathways Program and Manufacturing Hub, helping more women from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker backgrounds gain skills, confidence, and financial independence. Since 2013, SisterWorks has supported over 3,500 women from 105 countries, providing opportunities to build sustainable careers and businesses. This investment means we can expand our impact, creating even more pathways to employment and economic security. A big thank you to Assistant Minister Kate Thwaites MP and Assistant Minister Julian Hill MP for recognising the power of social enterprises in addressing disadvantage. Last week, SisterWorks, in partnership with South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA) and with the support of our Shared Value Partner, Yarra Trams, hosted the International Women’s Day Breakfast - bringing together 80 industry leaders from 35 companies in the manufacturing sector. This event was more than a celebration; it was a call to action to create greater economic opportunities for women, particularly those from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker backgrounds. A highlight of the morning was our keynote speaker, Dr Francesca Maclean, who delivered an inspiring talk on the game-changing, award-winning Shared Value Partnership between Yarra Trams and SisterWorks and the significant impact it creates. Followed by a panel discussion, where we heard from Banin and Oluwtosin, two Sisters from our program who have successfully secured employment—Banin at L'Oréal and Oluwtosin at Delaware North. They shared their inspiring journeys and the transformative impact of employment, alongside insights from Cedric Lemetter, Chief Operations Officer at L'Oréal, and Kimberley Manning (nee Dixon), Head of Talent Acquisition at Delaware North. Since 2022, 50 Sisters have been employed at L'Oréal, with 16 currently in roles, a testament to how industry partnerships create real change. As Yang Gao, Workforce Staffing Operations Manager at Amazon, shared, “This will not be the end, but the start.” We are grateful to all the organisations that attended and contributed to this important conversation. Your commitment to diversity, inclusion, and ethical employment is making a real, measurable impact. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. SisterWorks is dedicated to expanding employment and manufacturing opportunities, from skilled production work to sustainable repurposing projects. We invite businesses to collaborate with us in building a more inclusive, diverse, and skilled workforce. Cultural Diversity Week offers a moment to reflect on the diverse stories that shape our communities. Victoria is home to people from 314 ancestries, speaking 290 languages—each voice contributing to the rich fabric of who we are. But embracing #diversity is more than just celebrating these differences. It’s about creating meaningful opportunities for every woman to thrive. Every journey is unique. Some women come to Australia seeking safety, while others leave behind careers, communities, and everything familiar to build a new life. These journeys are not without their challenges, but they are full of resilience, hope, and determination. At SisterWorks, we are inspired by these journeys. Our Sisters come from 105 countries across five continents, each bringing their unique skills, cultures, and dreams to Australia. Every journey is different, but all are filled with hope, resilience, and strength. Their contributions don’t just shape their own futures—they enrich the whole community. This year’s theme, Embrace the Journey. Shape Our Future., serves as a powerful reminder. When we uplift and empower diverse communities, we create a stronger, more #inclusive future for everyone. In the lead-up to and during International Women's Day, Crafted Culture Catering by SisterWorks Inc. did more than serve food — it created meaningful opportunities for the women in our programs. Together, we generated 200 hours of paid employment for women from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker backgrounds, supporting their journey toward economic independence. This impact also enabled us to employ three new graduates from our Hospitality Program, helping them secure their first jobs in Australia. This is the power of purposeful catering — bringing people together while driving real change. Let’s keep the momentum going. With Harmony Week around the corner, it’s the perfect time to continue celebrating diversity and connection. #WorkEmpowersWomen #SisterWorks #HarmonyWeek #SocialEnterprise #CateringWithImpact #CraftedCulture

The real change happens when corporations and social enterprises align their strategies to create shared value—driving not only social impact but also long-term business success. Corporate partnerships with social enterprises go far beyond financial support. They create opportunities for innovation, embed social impact into supply chains, and use data to measure real, sustainable change. When both parties co-create solutions, the results are more scalable, meaningful, and impactful. We encourage you to explore how strategic partnerships can help you scale your impact and foster mutually beneficial relationships that empower communities and businesses alike. Our collaboration with Restaurant Associates Australia goes beyond a simple placement program—it serves as a powerful means to open doors for migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker women, enabling them to enter new careers and gain practical, hands-on experience. Take Ingrid's story, for example. After moving from Brazil to Australia, Ingrid faced challenges with limited English proficiency and a lack of local work experience. However, with the support of SisterWorks and the training provided through our partnership with Restaurant Associates, she acquired the hospitality skills and confidence necessary to secure a position as a catering assistant. Today, Ingrid works in both the kitchen and café at a corporate client site, where she prepares food, assists chefs, and learns the art of coffee making alongside expert baristas. This partnership doesn’t just fill job vacancies; it transforms lives by connecting women with sustainable employment and opportunities for career growth. When Marynel arrived in Australia from Venezuela in 2014 as a refugee, she was searching for opportunities to build a future for herself and her family. Through SisterWorks, she gained essential skills in the Hospitality Program and Small Business Program, helping her build confidence in her entrepreneurship. More than just skills training, SisterWorks provided a sense of belonging—a place where women from migrant, refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds can access education, mentorship, and economic empowerment. Marynel’s story demonstrates the power of supporting women through skills-based education. SisterWorks believes that women’s success drives positive change for families and communities. #WorkEmpowersWomen #RefugeeWomen #SocialImpact #SisterWorks #EmpoweringWomen #SmallBusiness #WomenSupportingWomen #MarchForward #SocialEnterprise #DiversityAndInclusion #SkillsForSuccess

Last week, our SisterWorks Empowerment Hubs gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day — sharing meals, connecting with one another, and writing powerful messages of strength, resilience, and hope on our IWD board — in a space where every woman’s story is seen, heard, and valued. But this wasn’t just a board. It was a reflection of the women we walk alongside every day — migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker women building new lives, overcoming challenges, and daring to dream. Each message — bold or quiet — carried the weight of lived experiences, the hope for brighter tomorrows, and the right to belong and thrive. Let’s keep creating space for these voices. Let’s keep breaking down barriers. And let’s keep Marching Forward, together. Because when women rise, entire communities rise with them. #InternationalWomensDay #MarchForward #InvestInWomen #SisterWorks #WorkEmpowersWomen #Bendigo #Abbotsford #Dandenong
