Today marked the end of an incredible Business Forum, where discussions on Public-Private Collaboration and the Blue Economy continued. It was inspiring to hear practical solutions already working in other countries and regions, offering models that Small Island Developing States (SIDs) can follow or adapt to drive sustainable growth. It was an honour to meet Hon. Hu’akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni, Prime Minister of Tonga 🇹🇴, at the Tongan community’s welcoming dinner last night. I also had the privilege of meeting Samiuela Vea, President of the Tongan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Mele ’Amanaki, Secretary-General of the Tonga Public Service Association. After the forum, I visited the local market and spoke with the businesswomen there about Siuhuu. Their enthusiasm reaffirmed the importance of bringing Siuhuu to Samoa to support local businesses. It’s the first day of the Commonwealth Business Forum, and I had the privilege of participating in a roundtable discussion on digital transformation and e-commerce, where we explored the key challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS). One recurring theme was how governments and private sectors can collaborate to address these issues. I was honored to share the journey of Siuhuu, my tech startup, and how it aims to tackle e-commerce challenges across the Pacific. However, I also highlighted a significant obstacle I’ve faced—the difficulty in securing funding. While most funding for the Pacific is understandably focused on climate change, it leaves little room for support in other critical areas that also need attention, such as e-commerce and regional trade networks. I encouraged the Commonwealth, governments, banks, and funding organizations to expand their support for Pacific innovators working to solve pressing challenges beyond climate issues. Sustainable progress requires fostering innovation across multiple sectors, ensuring entrepreneurs like myself have access to the necessary resources to make a meaningful impact.🤝 A personal highlight today was meeting Henk Rogers, founder of Tetris and co-founder of Blue Startups where I had the privilege of completing my work placement in Hawaii earlier this year.
