Why This Matters Now: For the first time in modern history, today's young people face the prospect of being worse off than their parents. Decades of short-term thinking have created converging crises, making it increasingly difficult for future generations to flourish. The Bill's Vision: To fundamentally shift how public bodies operate, ensuring today's needs are met without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own. Key Features of the Bill: - Creates a framework making intergenerational equity central to public decision-making - Places legal responsibility on government bodies to consider long-term impacts - Establishes an independent Commissioner for Future Generations - Launches a National Conversation on Future Wellbeing, bringing diverse voices together to co-create Australia's future vision This isn't just another piece of legislation—it's about reimagining how we make decisions that impact generations to come.
