🤫A little secret, not so secret: Do not work for free! Your time is valuable, whatever you produce or create.

Take a deep breath. Because we're about to dive into another serious issue. 🚨 Since my last post about my beef with ad agencies, my DMs have been flooded with messages from creatives offering to work for me for free. And while I'm flattered by the gesture, I need to make something crystal clear: I never, ever have creatives work for me for free, on spec, or for "exposure." Period. Here's the thing - when you don't pay creatives for their work, you're not just devaluing their time and talent. You're also setting yourself up for subpar results. Because let's be real, you get what you pay for. And if you're paying nothing, well ... you do the math. 🤷♀️ But beyond the quality issue, there's a bigger ethical problem at play here. Asking creatives to work for free is exploitation, plain and simple. It's taking advantage of people's passion and desperation to break into the industry, or a job, or an opportunity and it's not okay. Creatives, listen up: Your work has value. Your time has value. YOUR TALENT HAS VALUE. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. If a company or client isn't willing to pay you fairly for your work, that's a huge red flag. 🚩 Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction. Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "But Stephanie, I'm just starting out! I need to build my portfolio!" I get it. We've all been there. But there are ways to gain experience and exposure without selling yourself short. Collaborate with other creatives. Take on pro bono work for a cause you care about. Build your own passion projects. Just don't buy into the lie that you have to work for free to "prove yourself." As a CMO, I want to work with creatives who know their worth and aren't afraid to stand up for it. Because that confidence and self-respect translates into the quality of their work. So, to all the creatives who offered to work for me for free, thank you, but no thank you. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'd much rather pay you what you deserve. 💰 And to the rest of the industry, let's make this our rallying cry: No more free work. No more spec work. No more "exposure" in lieu of payment. It's time to value our creatives and pay them accordingly. Who's with me? If this post doesn’t inspire you maybe the below video from Zulu Alpha Kilo will. #CreativesUnite #KnowYourWorth #NoFreeWork #CMOsAgainstExploitation #CMOpov

Where do the #AI data come from? #sora by OpenAI

🚨 The clip below could put OpenAI in trouble; here's why: In case OpenAI's Sora is classified as a high-risk AI system per the EU AI Act, they will have to comply with transparency obligations such as informing users about "training, validation and testing data sets used, taking into account the intended purpose of the AI system" (Art. 13.3) In the clip below, Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, cannot specify or exemplify the sources of data used to train Sora. If she were from the marketing department, this would be okay, but as a CTO, this is a core aspect of the technology that can lead to legal liability, and she should be able to answer it in a straightforward way. In the US, FTC Chair Lina Khan recently said that sensitive personal data (linked to health, geolocation, and web browsing history) should be excluded from training datasets. If we do not know the sources of data, the question about sensitive data and measures taken to avoid it becomes murky. The FTC is currently investigating OpenAI and has made multiple inquiries regarding the training dataset. From my perspective, they will soon require detailed and public information about the training dataset, and Murati's vague statement can be seen as inadmissible. 70% of European VCs say they track the number of female-founded companies going through their investment pipelines. Agata Leliwa Nowicka's 2024 State of Gender Diversity in European Venture reveals what key strategies are used by VCs to find women-founded companies 👇 Unsurprisingly, network outreach remains the top source of where Investors get their deals from (think WhatsApp chats, forwarded emails, LinkedIn messages). There are 2 implications here that follow on for Founders: 👋 /1 the importance of social presence (post on LinkedIn, join Slack & Discord groups, get the word out there, make your company visible) 📧/2 form relationships with investors and don’t be afraid to send out Cold Emails. Even if you do not receive a reply, you never know if your email could have been forwarded from one VC to another. #vcfunding #capitalraising #femalefounders #dealflow #raisingcapital
