About us
We know how rewarding it feels to tell your friends and family you’ve just landed your dream job, and want to help others feel the same. It started a podcast, grew it into a global membership, and now so much more. The SportsGrad Podcast is your bite-sized guide to enter the sports industry. Subscribe for inspiring interviews and practical lessons every Tuesday and Thursday. The SportsGrad Membership is a Community of ambitious individuals. We help them become more employable, well connected, and land exclusive jobs. Our members have landed jobs in leading organisations like the AFL, Football Australia, Cricket Australia and the Richmond Football Club. If you’d like to hire one of our outstanding members, head to www.sportsgrad.com.au/hire We also offer affordable products to help you become a natural at networking, and stand out in job applications. Both are available on our website. When Reuben dropped out of Marketing to pursue Sport Management, he had zero experience and zero contacts. On the Monday after his final exam, he started his first full-time job in the Digital department at Cricket Australia. He did this by relentlessly trying to answer ‘how do I get a job in sport?’ He networked, volunteered, and applied for every job under the sun. When he landed the job at Cricket Australia, people asked him ‘how did you do it?’ So he started teaching them his method. When Ryan started at Cricket Australia, he met Reuben at induction - also experiencing his first day. 4 years of advancing between roles in Community and Commercial Partnerships taught Ryan what it takes to grow a fulfilling career in sport. Covid took Reuben’s job and turned his attention to helping others. Eventually that feeling got the better of Ryan, and SportsGrad became his new dream job. 3 days after launch, we became the #1 ‘Careers’ Podcast in Australia on iTunes. Now our podcast is sponsored by Deakin University, Australia’s leading university for sport, the SportsGrad community s

Time to raise the bat! To bring up episode 300 of SportsGrad I've packed it all in: '#300: How to land a job in sport (without relying on luck)' If job hunting feels like a full-time job, this one's for you. With all the wisdom of 300 episodes, I've stacked in how to cut it down from a full-time job to just a casual gig you quit after a few shifts. So if you'd like to get hired 10x faster, grab a pen and dig in. So a big thanks to every guest, listener, member, and employee who's supported the pod since the early YouTube days of 2017. Plus a big thanks to Deakin University for backing it since 2021!! Who would you like to see on the pod next?

The cover letter is not dead. However, based on the applications I am reviewing, it's clearly endangered. This made those applicants who took the time to craft well considered and relevant cover letters clear standouts.

Would you love to write sports marketing strategies for huge brands? To be the person who advises whether a brand should sponsor a league, club, or athlete, and how to bring it to life? That's what Sam Waring does as a Strategy Consultant at Gemba. Yes it's his dream job, but he almost didn't make it. After getting rejected for the job he's in, Sam went away, identified gaps in his skillset, actually did something about those gaps, and returned a year later to land his dream job. Last night the SportsGrad Community chatted with Sam to learn what goes on in his role, and his journey from Auckland to Sydney. Big thanks to Sam for sharing his insights with the Community, so many were left inspired by this dream job, and enjoyed conversation about current trends in the sports marketing space. A Wednesday night well done. If you're keen to meet people in sport like Sam without sending LinkedIn messages into the abyss... Subscribe to the SportsGrad newsletter for opportunities to grow your network in sport every week from home: https://lnkd.in/gDWC68NU (loved by 5,200+ job hunters and professionals) P.s. - the event calendar currently has 13 upcoming events between now and December to grow your network in sport

Think you'd like to work for an AFL club and then be your own boss? That's what Michael Barker did, via Carlton Football Club on his way to starting Two Times Creative. Last night the SportsGrad Community chatted with Michael to learn about his VERY unconventional career journey. Michael left uni with a degree in Building Design, but his curiosity in video production led him down another path. Despite no formal training, Michael taught himself how to edit hype reels using NBA footage from YouTube. Eventually, he arrived at Carlton FC to apply for a Video Producer role where he very openly said "I've never picked up a camera before, but I'm willing to learn". Carlton believed in him so they gave him a go... not bad for an architect with no formal creative training. Michael lived the dream for 4 years in the AFL, and has now gone on to work for himself, leading to freelance shoots with the NBL, Dirk Nowitzki, Sam Kerr, and many more athletes. Big thanks to Michael for dropping by, and a shout out to the SportsGrad Members who are out here investing in their career on a Monday night. If you want to meet professionals like Michael last night, and Sam Waring tomorrow night, subscribe to our event newsletter to grow your network effortlessly from home: https://lnkd.in/gDWC68NU
