Non-profit Organization Management

SurfAid's mission is to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of families living in remote regions.

About us

SurfAid’s mission is to improve the lives of women and children in remote areas connected to us through surfing. SurfAid specialises in working in very isolated villages where the maternal and child mortality rates are some of the highest in the world. Our geographical focus on the heartlands of surfing where few visitors but surfers go, make our work unique. We know that simple solutions like hand washing prior to delivering a baby, practising exclusive breastfeeding, and improving nutrition can have an enormously positive impact on the health of women and their families. We work with each individual community to affect long term behaviour change. We believe, and our results show, that working with communities to develop their own solutions is the most effective form of aid - a hand up, not a hand out approach.

👧🏽👧🏿 Today we celebrate the International Day of the Girl. @unitednations International Day of the Girl focuses on the challenges girls face and promotes girls empowerment along with the fulfillment of their human rights. Adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported during their adolescent years, girls have the potential to change the world – both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers, entrepreneurs, mentors, mothers, household heads, and political leaders. At SurfAid our mission is to improve the lives of women and children in remote areas connected to us through surfing. Supporting girls is at the heart of our work in very isolated villages where maternal and child mortality rates are some of the highest in the world. 💙 With your ongoing support, we can continue to #MakeAWave of impact for girls around the world by providing access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation, and improved nutrition.

Earlier this year, our partners at the Western Solomon Surfing Association (WSSA) participated in a valuable Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) training, facilitated by Dignity Pasifik. This training played a crucial role in setting clear success indicators for the Women Make Waves program, ensuring we can effectively measure the program's impact and foster continuous improvement. With these new tools, WSSA is better equipped to assess how well the program is meeting its goals and serving the local community. Together, we remain committed to making data-driven decisions that enhance the program’s effectiveness. Team Up Australian Volunteers Program

Meet Mr. Yosua, a young father and farmer from Sumba. Through SurfAid's agricultural microgrants, Yosua expanded his farm from rice to tomatoes, chillies, and eggplants, and now harvests 2,300 tomato plants with incredible success. The income from just one tonne of tomatoes surpasses that of 70 sacks of rice! With his increased earnings, Yosua supports his brother's college education and covers his children's school fees. "I’ve proven to myself that I can be successful and support my family," Yosua shares.
