2 mega tunnel boring machines, Betty and Dorothy, break through at Sydney Olympic Park. 💥 As Sydney Metro construction heads west, two mega tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have arrived at Sydney Olympic Park to complete the first two tunnel entries for the future station. TBMs Betty and Dorothy have now  excavated approximately 857,500 tonnes of material, to complete the first leg in the journey. They have installed more than 32,600 concrete precast segments along the way to line the new tunnel walls.   Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. Fast and reliable metro services will make it easier to travel around western Sydney, link new communities to rail services and support employment growth and housing supply Video credit: Sydney Metro / Jo Haylen

#SydneyThisWeek. Sydney’s newest waterfront precinct opens! ❤️ From this week, Sydneysiders can enjoy and access Sydney’s newest waterfront precinct ahead of Barangaroo’s first transport link opening in August. The area around Barangaroo Station has been opened. The area includes new footpaths, over 200 new trees and plants, new streetlights and bike parking. New seats around the precinct have been installed, as well as new bus stops close to the station entry and taxi facilities.  Next to the Nawi Cove station entrance, a piece of history can be found with a cast iron inlay of the historic Barangaroo Boat. When metro services start later in August, this key part of the city will be unlocked with fast travel times across Sydney. Images credit: Sydney Metro

#FutureSydney. Plans for Sydney’s TWO tallest ever skyscrapers. ✔️ Sydney’s skyline could be transformed with 2 new skyscrapers at the northern end of the CBD. Plans have been put forward by Lendlease and Dexus for 318 metre and 310 metre towers. The proposed development from Lendlease, named the O’Connell Precinct is for the taller 72-storey office tower. Located on O’Connell, Spring and Bent Streets the tower would accommodate 9000 workers. The proposal from Dexus is named ‘Pitt & Bridge’ and is to develop a 310 metre ‘green and global premium office tower’ with 90,000 sqm of office space and ground floor retail. The current skyscraper limit in Sydney is 200 metres. But provisions could be made to allow buildings taller than 300 metres. A City of Sydney spokesperson says this forms the first major planning review of the CBD in 45 years. Premier Chris Minns has said ‘he would like to see the buildings up and running’.
