Jo Haylen has quit as transport minister after a scandal over her use of taxpayer-funded ministerial cars, in a major blow to the government. Haylen, one of Premier Chris Minns’ closest allies in parliament, told the Herald she would step down from the ministry after a string of revelations surrounding her use of ministerial vehicles. President Donald Trump welcomed billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch to the Oval Office as he signed an executive order to begin creating a US sovereign wealth fund. Trump praised the “legendary” Murdoch, but did not shy away from criticising newspaper The Wall Street Journal in front of him. The nation’s population forecasters have peered into the future and concluded Greater Sydney will maintain its ranking as Australia’s biggest city for at least another decade. In late 2020 the federal government’s Centre for Population predicted Greater Melbourne would grab the mantle as most populated city in 2026-27. But a review of overseas migration flows has changed that.

The 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon has attracted more than 79,000 applications for just 35,000 starting line spots. Three years ago, only 5306 people ran. Last year, operations director Simon Bryan said there would be spots designated for Australian runners.
