About us

At Target, we’ve always been here to help families live better. But right now, we can see that what ‘better’ means is changing. Better means making choices that can change the world. Better is about a life that’s lived, not with more things, but with things that mean more. A life where quality is always valued over quantity. Where beauty is born from style and substance in equal measure. A better way of life, that’s within easy reach of all. That’s why everything from the products we make to the experience we create, is crafted with intention and a single purpose…To inspire families to live better.

We’re thrilled to announce our collaboration with Caprice and Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation for the launch of the Warlu collection – this beautiful range features children’s swimwear and accessories and matching family sleepwear, crafted by the talented artists The Fisher Family and Maisie Nungarrayi Ward, and celebrates First Nations artists and the rich tapestry of Indigenous art and storytelling.   The collection is now available online and will be dropping in Target stores from this week for a limited time only: https://lnkd.in/gAT7Hxz4   Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to life.

While we are extremely proud of this achievements we will never be complacent about our responsibility to always improve.   To read the full report: https://lnkd.in/g53sws-d including a brand spotlight on Kmart & Target (page 26).

As one of Australia’s largest retailers, we’re proud to have partnered with the Queensland Government and RMIT University on this landmark study – which will give industry and government the vital data we need in order to develop evidence-based initiatives that directly and demonstrably reduce the amount of clothing ending up in landfill.

The first-ever nationwide study into how Australians use and dispose of clothing has revealed people are buying too many clothes and are unsure how to discard them responsibly. Conducted by RMIT University and commissioned by Kmart Australia Limited and the Queensland Government, a study of 3,080 Australians explored how they acquired, used and disposed of their clothing. Across all findings, age was the most significant factor in determining consumer clothing practices, surpassing gender, income bracket and location. Young Australians, aged 18–34, were more likely to buy second-hand, repair, resell or share clothes but tended to have large collections of unused clothing that were no longer in style. Older Australians were more likely to donate clothing they no longer wanted, though were less likely to buy second-hand. Lead author RMIT Professor Alice Payne said although Australians buy too many clothes, there are some things we do well. “Compared to European data, Australians are better at shopping second-hand and washing clothes responsibly,” said Payne, Dean of RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles. "Brands and retailers must create higher-quality products that endure both fashion trends and wear." At Target, we believe that every team member should feel safe, supported and proud to bring their authentic selves to work. Last week, we celebrated Wear it Purple Day, an annual event dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ youth by fostering an inclusive environment for all. This year’s theme, 'Your Passion, Your Pride,' resonates deeply with our commitment to inclusivity. Through initiatives like meaningful discussions with Charlie from Minus18, we’re continually learning and growing as allies to the LGBTQIA+ community. #WearItPurple #ThatsTarget

We're excited to be launching a uniform recycling program by partnering with UPPAREL for our Target Distribution Centre team members around Australia. Upparel is Australia's leading textile recovery and recycling organisation that collects unwanted textiles from all over the country and recycles and repurposes them to reduce clothing waste – making it easier for team members who wear a uniform to responsibly dispose of end-of-life uniforms and clothing at work. 🌱👚🌍

The Sunshine Coast was absolutely buzzing as 450 of our incredible store leaders across Target and Kmart came together for the first time at our 2024 Store Managers Conference! Together we took a moment to share our achievements, celebrate our strengths together as two distinct and loved Australian brands, and learn about how we are accelerating forward towards our future goals - to ensure our operations, our people, and our customers continue to thrive. And the best part? Watching our team connect and forge new and lasting relationships. To our amazing Store Managers, we want to take this moment say thank you for all that you do. Your leadership, hard work, and dedication are the foundation of our success. With a team like this leading the way - the future looks bright. #ThatsTarget

Last week, in support of our much-loved charity partner, the Australian Childhood Foundation, we coordinated a fantastic makeover of their counselling centre in Launceston, Tasmania. We transformed the centre into a warm and welcoming space by providing Target and Anko products, furniture, alongside our helping hands! These centres located across the country enable the Foundation to do important work with children and families, providing counselling and therapeutic services. A huge thank you to our fantastic local store team at Target Launceston - particularly Store Manager, Teagan Brown, who led this project with the enthusiastic support from her Zone Manager, Justine Kanaris, store team and dedicated Community Team. #ThatsTarget To learn more about our partnership, visit: https://lnkd.in/gty9gACf
