  • Tasracing offers its condolences to trainer John Keys and connections of The Inevitable, who tragically passed away on Wednesday. Tasracing acknowledges the stewards’ comments regarding The Inevitable’s passing after the horse broke down near the 500m mark of the Steve’s Liquor Hellova Street Stakes. The Inevitable will be remembered as a true Tasmanian champion and one of the best horses trained in the state. An 18-time winner with prize money earnings of $2,165,900, The Inevitable raced in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia along with his home state. Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins paid tribute to the horse known as ‘the little champ’. “Our thoughts are with John (Keys), Tegan (Keys), Scott (Brunton) and The Inevitable’s big group of owners following what can only be described as a racing tragedy on Wednesday,” Jenkins said. “The Inevitable was a special horse. He was loved nationally as much as he was here in Tassie. He was a horse and a story that everyone could get behind. He’ll be remembered for generations.” In his home state, The Inevitable won the Tasmanian Guineas, Conquering Stakes, Tasmanian Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, Thomas Lyons and Hellova Street Stakes, all at Listed level. He shot to national prominence with Victorian victories in the CS Hayes (Group 3) and Chandler MacLeod (Listed) before his triumph in the 2019 $500,000 Silver Eagle in New South Wales. His last victory was in the Listed Tasmanian Stakes (1600m) in Hobart on 27 December, 2024.

  • Love is in the air at Tasracing! ❤️ Celebrating our amazing team with some punny compliments, sweet treats and plenty of laughs. We had to get our CEO with a good one after he got mistaken for a waiter at dinner after the Hobart Cup. Oh well, he’s a man of many talents. 😆 Happy Valentine’s Day! 🌹

  • A crackle of cockatoos was running rampant in Hobart on Cup Day, as the North Hobart Bowls & Community Club won $10,000 as part of the second leg of the 2025 Ladbrokes Community Sports Series (LCSS). The Bowls Club, affectionately known as the Cockatoos, let out a rousing rendition of their club song after Ozturk's victory in the sixth race on a brilliant day of racing. Ozturk, the $3.10 favourite, landed in a forward spot outside the leader Hububbajahn ($4.20). That pair finished as the quinella, albeit with Ozturk storming away for a 2.5-length victory. “We’re just thrilled with the result,” said club representative Gary Rumbold. “We’ve got fewer than 40 members at the club; every cent matters so much, and we can hardly believe we’ve won the $10,000 today.” Though they might not have a huge member base, the Cockatoos were out in force on Hobart Cup Day, relishing the opportunity to be in the running for the grand prize. “We’ve had a brilliant day at the races here today, just mingling with the other clubs, and now with this result, the rest of the day will be even sweeter,” Rumbold said. A full field of 14 faced the starter for Sunday’s designated LCSS race, a maiden/class 1 over 1600m. It was the North Hobart Club that took the grand prize, but every club walked away with at least $500, along with 10 tickets in a prime location for Cup Day. Situated immediately behind the North Hobart Football Oval, Rumbold said the $10,000 will be put towards car park upgrades that have been postponed due to a lack of funds. The final leg of the 2025 LCSS will be in Launceston on Cup Day (26 February), where 14 northern sporting clubs will share over $25,000 in prizes. The final results of the Hobart LCSS are below: • 1st North Hobart Bowls & Community Club (Ozturk) - $10,000 • 2nd Southern Raiders Polo Club (Hububbajahn) - $5,000 • 3rd Sorell Cricket Club (Hurricane Ketut) - $2,500 • 4th Colebrook Golf Club (Emmjay) - $1,500 • 5th Tasmania Golf Club (I’m Chev) - $1,250 • 6th Wellington Cricket Club (Mateus) - $1,000 • 7th Welsh Corgi Club of Tasmania (Swooping Eagle) - $750 • 8th Angeliques School of Dance (Bunker Bob) - $500 • 9th Tasmanian University Football Club (Sunrise At Kirra) - $500 • 10th Rosny Park Bowls Club (Fashion Fox) - $500 • 11th Cygnet Bowls & Community Club (Little River Toff) - $500 • 12th Claremont Golf Club (Captain Taz) - $500 • 13th North West Bay Golf Club (Kagiso) - $500 • 14th Dunalley Golf Club (Oxy Bolt) - $500
