Earlier this week, we had the privilege of sponsoring the 17th Southern Cross Kids' Camps Golf event. What began as a humble Pitch and Putt day has evolved and grown, now hosted at the prestigious The Metropolitan Golf Club A heartfelt thank you to the organizers and dedicated advocates, peter lusk, Belinda McInnes, Irene Ling and Francis SK Ling. A special shoutout to NHP Electrical Engineering Products for setting a remarkable example of how businesses can engage their employees in community service. Your work with Southern Cross Kids' Camps is truly inspirational.

The CrowdStrike outage has been monumental. Our thoughts are with the IT support teams affected by this outage and are working around the clock to get the businesses up and running. Anyone in IT knows the responsibility and mental health associated with this situation; we hope they are getting the support and space needed to do their job. We are also grateful that our staff and our clients have had an uninterrupted Friday afternoon and able to continue to spend time with their family this weekend. Techware do not utilise Crowdstrike but it does not mean any of our software vendors are immune from this type of errors. While there will be strong emotions for those affected by this situation and if they are thinking about changing vendor; will firing a person or company mean the next person or company be more immune to system/human error? We are sure Crowdstrike will learn and improve from this but the emotions attached to the impact of this situation may be too hard to bear for some of their clients. While we cannot control all the errors of software and hardware; one of the things we can do is update our Business Continuity Plan (BCP). Those affected will be re-looking at how they managed to accept the risk and the contingency plan on their BCP. It just so happens that our BCP review are scheduled at the end of this month. I am sure there will be fresh energy attached to this discussion. Our IT Managers will be adding this situation to the agenda for next meeting with our clients as a reminder to review risk and the importance of a robust BCP.

Today’s monthly lunch and learn, we stepped away from topics about cyber security, AI, automation, IT care and turn the topic to SELF care. To help us with the discussion, we were so please to have Dan Williams speak to us. Dan shared his personal struggle with mental health, how he continues to manage it, gave our team practical steps to identify our situation, steps to take care of ourselves and the amazing work of the organisation he founded Without Fear. Dan’s presentation was relatable, practical and was very helpful. Thanks Dan for coming in today!
