  • Thanks for having us #Cairns Youth & Careers Expo! The Tenancy Skills Institute team were delighted to join the Business Liaison Association and fellow exhibitors recently at the Cairns Show Ground in a pavilion jam-packed with ideas and information about future pathways. Ensuring that young people are rent-ready is a crucial part of setting up young people with bright futures, so our team is always delighted to engage with the community, sharing information about our tenancy education courses at these events. Tenancy Skills Institute courses are available in all states and territories, and in Queensland, are funded by the Queensland Government.

Today is R U OK? Day and inCommunity Inc, and our brands of inCommunity Connect Tenancy Skills Institute and Beddown, are inspired to get behind this message, today and any day! Together, we understand the power of meaningfully connecting with people and starting conversations with those in the world who may be struggling with life. So to raise awareness of this message, the inCommunity Connect team are now using the R U OK? Playing Cards (which double as conversation starters) across our programs. The cards have been a huge hit at Womens Club and for the young people at Hargreaves House Crisis Accommodation so far - so it's a sure thing we will continue using these special cards in the weeks and months ahead too! #RUOKDay2024 #ruokanyday

  • We love delivering our tenancy education courses to Senior Students across Queensland, ensuring they are rent-ready for their next chapter after school. Here's a snapshot of just a few schools where we've delivered our courses recently to soon-to-be first-time renters, setting them up for success from the get-go! • The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is a long-term supporter of the Tenancy Skills Institute.    So, it is great to hear from CEO Tanya Stevenson about why she thinks our courses are so relevant for community members who engage with their Neighbourhood Centre.    Every month the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre runs our Skillsets for Successful Tenancies – Dollars and Sense course as part of HBNC's commitment to better rental outcomes in the region.    Having their team member Nat on hand, trained as a Tenancy Skills Institute Mentor, means that no question goes unanswered when community members undertake the course! If you are interested in learning more about the Tenancy Skills Institute's partnerships with community organisations, we'd love to hear from you!   This video was filmed on the Traditional Lands of the Butchulla People.

  • "It goes without saying that the work you do makes a tremendous difference to many people." It's wonderful to receive this positive feedback following the Tenancy Skills Institute's presentation at the recent 2024 VET Pathways Forum for the Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) and hosted by the Catholic Education Diocese of Rockhampton. Our Manager - Training Services Chris Jones shared a presentation with an engaged audience, highlighting why our tenancy education courses are natural companions for senior students in Queensland schools when undertaking Vocational Education and Training. We love ensuring students have tenancy skills in their toolkit for their next chapter after school - thanks to the QCEC for having us!

  • An amazing couple of weeks for the Tenancy Skills Institute team! Delivering tenancy education, engaging with communities, and continuing to expand our network of Property Managers who support our tenant education courses across Queensland. Buderim - Bundaberg - Cairns - Gladstone - Forest Glen - Gold Coast - Gympie - Mackay - Peregian Beach - Logan City - Toowoomba - Townsville ... to name more than a few! There are always many highlights, including the 22 graduates who completed our Skillsets for Successful Tenancies Dollars and Sense Course yesterday, pictured here with Trainer Blair Roberts! Hosted at the Toowoomba Housing Hub, the class included community members and students from Base Services who completed our tenancy education course as part of their hospitality traineeship. With a mix of ages, from experienced renters to first-time renters, it's a perfect snapshot of what we love to do here at the Institute, ensuring everyone has up-to-date tenancy skills and is rent-ready! www.baseservices.com.au

As the month of August draws to a close, inCommunity Inc, and our brands of Beddown, inCommunity Connect and Tenancy Skills Institute focuses on Multicultural Queensland Month. Celebrating people of all cultures and Queensland as a multicultural community where we all can contribute and thrive. We recognise the diverse cultural connections within our team as well as the people we walk alongside. Today we highlight our education brand, the Tenancy Skills Institute’s ongoing commitment to delivering our tenancy education courses to multicultural groups via organisations such as Townsville Multicultural Support Group; Centacare Multicultural Services in Cairns (Centacare Brisbane) and Multicultural Australia. Ensuring all residents of Queensland understand their rights and responsibilities under a lease agreement is essential, especially those who speak English as an additional language and/or who may have recently arrived in our state. As our team member Gavin M Ah Kee shares, “I really enjoy the work we do with our multicultural groups and I always learn more than the students. The language and cultural barriers to learning can be significant and I ensure I acknowledge and respect the group’s understanding of housing from where they have come from before I can deliver education and information on what it is like here. Using interpreters is a skill I have grown into but one that I truly value when I appreciate and understand the difficulty experienced by students for something as simple as asking to get a tap fixed, for example.” The Tenancy Skills Institute team continues to deliver to valued multicultural groups throughout Queensland, including next week’s courses in Toowoomba, where students whose first languages include Kurdish Kurmanji/Arabic and Swahili/Kinyarwanda will get rent-ready via our full tenancy education course. #multiculturalmonthqueensland

CROSS-SECTOR COLLABORATION AT ITS BEST Our team were among real estate agencies invited to a networking lunch to meet the inCommunity Connect team and learn about their programs that are helping to sustain tenancies. inCommunity is the organisation behind the Tenancy Skills Institute, which provides free courses to tenants on how to have successful tenancies; and the Early Intervention Brokerage Assistance Program, which provides valuable support to vulnerable tenancies before they have the chance to fail. We also celebrated the appointment of Peter Brewer (Chairman of the Board of The REIQ) as the Tenancy Skills Institute Ambassador. Our agency has been a long-time supporter and partner of inCommunity, which is leading the social sector in innovation and collaboration.
