Today is Whooping Cough Day and this morning I was able to chat with Alex on the Today Show to raise awareness - and with cases across Australia now at an all-time high - surpassing 41,000 for the year so far, it's more important than ever to highlight the vital role of vaccination in preventing this highly infectious disease. As TerryWhite Chemmart continues to evolve its leadership in vaccinations, I'm pleased to share that we have entered into a 5-year partnership with the Immunisation Foundation of Australia, as a further commitment to excellence and initiative in this space. Founded by Catherine Hughes AM, who tragically lost her son Riley to pertussis, the foundation has led powerful advocacy and education efforts to increase vaccine awareness and protect lives. Together, we aim to make a lasting impact on community health. To my colleagues, this Whooping Cough Day I encourage you to continue and amplify the great work you are doing to drive vaccinations. We know that only 1 in 5 adults over 50 is up to date with pertussis immunisation, and, one-in-four adolescents turning 13 years of age missed out on their routine booster in 2023 - so the opportunities for Care are huge. We have aligned with the Attorney General's initiative to raise awareness of elder abuse in our communities. This educational campaign started in late August and provided resources to our teams to learn about elder abuse and actions they can take. They also received flyers to distribute within their pharmacies for the community to learn what to look for and how to report it. As accessible healthcare providers, we often engage with elderly patients and their families, making us well-suited to identify potential signs of abuse. By leveraging this close connection, we can provide vital education and support through our pharmacies, empowering the community to take action and report suspected abuse. Through this campaign, we aim to protect vulnerable elders and ensure a safer, more supportive environment for all.
