How is sustainable finance evolving in Asia-Pacific? The Action Exchange's Georgia McCafferty authored this report, published Westpac Institutional Bank and Economist Impact, to examine the question. The third in a series that has been published since 2019, the report's findings are based on a survey of 150 investors and 150 issuers around the region. Australia has long relied on Foreign Direct Investment (#FDI) to underpin the growth of industries like coal, iron ore, and natural gas. Now, the country has an immediate need to mobilise foreign capital to build infrastructure at scale for its low-carbon energy transition. ‘Net Zero Exceptionalism: Accelerating foreign investment in Australia’s energy transition’, by Clayton Utz and supported by The Action Exchange, examined whether efforts to make Australian energy transition deals more attractive to offshore capital are proving effective, and if not, what might help to commit more green capital down under. Fever-pitch hype, billions in federal funding and unbridled optimism all suggest that #Australia has the potential to develop a lucrative #hydrogen industry that will boost the sluggish domestic energy transition, grow export markets, and spark a thriving new industry. Released at The Australian Financial Review's Energy and Climate Summit last year, ‘Under pressure: A reality check for Australia’s hydrogen dream,’ published by AFR Intelligence and Westpac Institutional Bank and supported by The Action Exchange, asked if it was time for a reality check. One year on, we are back at the Energy and Climate Summit. Does the case for green hydrogen now stack up? Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eeQ8i9PM

The Action Exchange’s Jessica Brown was at the world’s first Global Nature Positive Summit in Sydney last week, meeting with leaders from business and government to drive investment in nature. In case you missed it: The Action Exchange partnered with law firm Clayton Utz last year on Building Biodiversity: Australian Nature Credit Markets Beyond the TNFD. The report explored how the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) will shape voluntary Australian biodiversity credit markets. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/g2HU7u87.
Great first morning at the #globalnaturepositivesummit, and so good to see #oceanconservation taking centre stage. Tanya Plibersek announced a major expansion of Australia’s #marineprotectedarea in her opening remarks. I’m always most interested to hear from business and investment leaders who are doing (rather than just talking). Really interesting remarks from Telstra GC Lyndall Stoyles about the way Telstra is layering nature-related data over physical climate risk data, and using digital twins to assess nature-related risks to its physical assets.

Thank you, SeafoodSource and Emma Desrochers, for publishing this interview with The Action Exchange’s Jessica Brown about Back to Blue, a joint initiative of Economist Impact and The Nippon Foundation, which aims to address the harmful impacts of all forms of marine pollution by 2050. “The goal of Back to Blue is to bring together a holistic, global, data-driven understanding of ocean pollution and use that as a tool to drive action from decision-makers and policymakers in government, as well as in the private sector,” says Ms Brown. The record returns that #PE funds achieved in the last decade by capturing value from cheap capital and healthy equity markets are receding. IPOs and exits are becoming more challenging, pushing PE firms to adopt creative solutions to maintain cashflow, delay asset sales, and manage shifts in valuation fundamentals. ‘A New PE Playbook: Economic Headwinds Spur Private Equity Evolution’, published by Clayton Utz in partnership with The Action Exchange, examines how PE firms are facing challenges with IPOs and exits in today's market.
