The Attuned Spot addresses the critical gap between parental mental health and child development, offering a holistic approach to family well-being. Many parents and teachers face mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and stress, which significantly impact their ability to support and engage with their children and students effectively. This, in turn, affects the social-emotional development of children, leading to issues such as poor emotional regulation, social difficulties, and academic struggles. Our aim is to bridge the gap between parents and teachers, empowering them to support children through writing. As children and young adults become more confident and independent in their writing, they are better equipped to articulate their ideas and feelings, leading to improved social-emotional outcomes and enhanced academic performance. By addressing both the academic and emotional needs of young people, we can create stronger, more resilient families and classrooms. #socialemotionaldevelopment #spottherapy #mentalwellbeing #childdevelopment #parenting #teaching

Supporting Children Beyond What’s Visible: The Learning Iceberg We often focus on the visible aspects of a child's learning, like grades, behaviour, and social skills. But there's much more below the surface that impacts their success, such as emotional regulation, executive functioning, learning differences, and home environment. Here are common barriers that prevent us from addressing these hidden challenges: 1. Lack of Awareness or Training – Understanding underlying factors like attention, memory, or emotional regulation is essential. 2. Time Constraints – Busy schedules and large class sizes make it difficult to dig deeper. 3. Limited Resources – Access to specialists or additional support may not always be available. 4. Cultural and Social Pressures – Fear of judgment or stigma can prevent open conversations about learning difficulties. 5. Communication Gaps – Consistent collaboration between home, school, and professionals is vital. By recognising and addressing what's "below the surface," we can create supportive environments that help children thrive both academically and emotionally. #socialemotionaldevelopment #spottherapy #mentalwellbeing

Happy book week! Books can be a fantastic way to target social-emotional development through the ages. Swipe to see how you can support your child at different ages! Early Childhood (0-5 years) - Emotion Identification and Expression Use books to help your child identify and name emotions. - Role-Playing Act out scenarios from the book with your child, such as comforting a sad character or sharing with a friend. Early Primary (6-8 years) - Relating to Personal Experiences Encourage your child to relate the story’s events or characters to their own lives. - Problem-Solving Discussions Discuss any challenges the characters face in the story. Ask, “What else could the character have done?” Late Primary (9-12 years) - Perspective-Taking Encourage your child to consider the story from different characters’ viewpoints. - Social Stories Creation Have your child create their own social stories based on themes from the book, such as friendship or dealing with disappointment. Adolescents (13+ years) - In-Depth Discussions Facilitate deeper discussions about the themes and moral dilemmas in the book. - Mindfulness and Reflection After reading, guide your adolescent in a mindfulness exercise related to the book’s theme, such as journaling about how the story made them feel. These strategies are tailored for your child to the developmental stage of each age group, making them effective tools for fostering social-emotional growth through literature. #socialemotionaldevelopment #spottherapy #mentalwellbeing

For over 10 years combined we have been focused on supporting children and their families to grow and thrive together. Like many others in 2019 we switched from providing in-person services to telehealth services. What we found changed our view of the traditional model of allied health services. Together, we found more success for our clients by working with the parents to achieve therapy goals. Empowering parents and caregivers to build confidence and competence in their own skills to support their families leading to stronger client outcomes, goals quickly being achieved and better reported overall satisfaction and wellness. With that, the Attuned SPOT was born. Our goal is to break the traditional model of therapy and provide parents with the skills to support their children and families. Parents and caregivers have the unique ability to support their families mental well-being and social-emotional development. These skills can be developed in the home environment, reducing the strain on an already overrun system. We welcome you to come on this journey with us. #socialemotionaldevelopment #spottherapy #mentalwellbeing
