Last week, our China Country Director, Amanda Huang, had a productive meeting with Australia's Consul-General in Chengdu, Ms. Meaghan Shaw, to discuss China's remarkable progress in health, particularly eye health. Since we started work in China in 1998, our contributions to professional exchanges, community empowerment, and collaborative research, have not only helped restore sight but also deepened mutual understanding and built ties between our nations. To date, through the partnership with our local partners across mid-western China, our program has supported eye screenings for more than 6 million people, performed 2.8 million eye operations and treatments, and trained more than 53,000 professionals in China. This work would not be possible without the support of our generous donors and key partners like the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR) 澳中基金会. Their backing of our strong partnerships across provinces such as Yunnan, and at national level, is making a real difference by helping improve millions of people's lives through sight-saving work in rural China. #China #Australia #partnership #eyehealth

Our vision is for a world in which no person is needlessly blind or visually impaired.
About us
The Fred Hollows Foundation is inspired by the work of the late Professor Fred Hollows (1929-1993). Working in more than 25 countries, our vision is for a world where no one is needlessly blind, and Indigenous Australians enjoy the same health and life expectancy as other Australians. Fred believed local people were best placed to deliver health care to their communities. The Foundation seeks to strengthen and sustain local systems, both internationally and in our Indigenous Australia Program. We bring resources, knowledge and capacity building to partners who contribute their own knowledge, capabilities and resources. We work together to achieve our ambitious goal. Authorised by A. Today is #WorldSightDay, and we want to take a moment to say thank you for YOUR support in helping people in need of eye care, such as Mitchel from Kenya (pictured, left, with her grandmother). "I couldn’t read, I missed school, and I began to lose hope," Mitchel says about her dream of becoming a doctor almost being lost to cataract. Thanks to our generous supporters like you, Mitchel received the surgery she needed and , with sight restored, she’s excelling in school and dreaming big again! For #WorldSightDay, our Director of Brand & Communications, Alison Hill, delivered a powerful message to parliamentarians at the Vision 2020 Australia #LoveYourEyes event. With growing needs in our region, and leveraging the Australian Government’s recent investment in Assistive Technology (AT) for vision, hearing, and mobility in the Pacific, we're calling on all political leaders to commit to further investment in AT such as glasses. This commitment will empower Pacific disability-led organisations, train health workers, drive innovation in vision technology, and ensure access to affordable, high-quality assistive technology for those who need it most, including women, girls, older people, and children. #Pacific #eyehealth #AssistiveTechnology ping Pat Conroy MP, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade ,

Fred Hollows knew the impact we could have across the globe, and that’s why we're joining #SaferWorldForAll to call for MPs to commit to increasing Australia's aid budget to at least 1% of the federal budget. The small increase from 0.68% of our federal budget could have a huge impact on people all over the world. 👁️ "If they're walking into a space where they don't feel welcome and understood," it can affect how safe people feel in the healthy system, points out Dr Kris Rallah-Baker. He's explaining part of why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults are three times more likely to be blind or vision impaired than other Australians. 🎥 WATCH below and READ MORE at https://lnkd.in/gXTk6Dkx #Australia #Aboriginal #eyehealth #ClosetheGap ping Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association

What a tremendous achievement for our team in Pakistan as well as the many partners who played a huge role in eliminating this dreadful disease. Thanks also to the Australian Government’s #ANCP funding for this project. #endTachoma

It's the United Nations' #InternationalDayofOlderPersons and we want to look at the vital role glasses and other vision aids play in helping older people experiencing vision loss. Many older people face declining eyesight, which can lead to increased risk of social isolation and reduced quality of life BUT providing access to affordable glasses and eye care services not only improves their vision but also enhances their independence and participation in everyday activities. Let’s ensure everyone has access to the #AssistiveTechnology they need, including life-changing glasses. Join us in urging the Government to take action and help #UnlockTheEveryday for older people with vision challenges, with the Australian Disability and Development Consortium 👉 https://lnkd.in/gEwabru5 📷: Eye Screening for Uncorrected Refractive Error, Grameen GC Eye Hospital, Bangladesh.
