For South Australian women aged 18 to 65 years old that suffer from urinary tract infections (UTIs), relief comes from a recent government change that came into effect from 1 March 2024. Eligible women with symptoms of an uncomplicated UTI can now receive advice and treatment from trained pharmacists through SA Community Pharmacy UTI Services, without needing to visit a doctor to get a prescription. These services complement those already available through other healthcare providers, and is an alternative for women to receive the health advice and care they may need quickly, especially when other options are unavailable. It is an unfortunate fact that one in two Australian women will experience a urinary tract infection in their lifetime, so this alternative option to UTI care will serve many well across the South Australia community.
