The NNTC also joins Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) in congratulating the Budina People and Budina Aboriginal Corporation who celebrate their 7 year native title determination anniversary! #nativetitle #aboriginalaustralia #aboriginalculture #anniversary #westernaustralia
YMAC would like to congratulate the Budina People and Budina Aboriginal Corporation who today celebrate the seventh anniversary of their initial native title determination. The Budina Native Title Holders celebrated legal recognition of their land and culture at an on-Country Federal Court hearing at Lyndon Pastoral Station on 16 October 2017. Covering 4,096 square kilometres of land, the initial determination area is 300 kilometres southeast of Exmouth and 400 kilometres northeast of Carnarvon. The area covers parts of the Shires of Ashburton, Carnarvon, and Upper Gascoyne, overlapping with several pastoral stations: Lyndon, Towera, Emu Creek, Uaroo, Middalya, Mongaroon and Maroonah. The Budina People are a small community who have continuously maintained their association with Country. They continue to look after their Country and pass on cultural knowledge through traditional law and traditional customs. A second Budina claim was determined in 2021. Covering 2083 square kilometres of land, the second determination area is directly to the east of the initial determination. The area covers parts of the Shires of Carnarvon and Ashburton, and is overlapped by parts of the Emu Creek, Towera, Winning, Mia Mia, and Middalya pastoral stations.
