We had the pleasure of hosting a bright young student from Melbourne High School for work experience this week. He worked closely with Georgina Halse in our Evaluation and Qualitative Research team, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience. A big thank you to Georgie for her guidance and to Dina Neiger for assisting with organising this opportunity. We’re excited to support the next generation of researchers! While our work experience opportunities are limited, we were delighted to provide this unique opportunity and support young talent. #WorkExperience #NextGeneration #FutureResearchers #SocialResearch

We are proud of the methodological rigour we infuse across our offerings as it results in the highest quality insights for our clients. Our experts work across Australia, partnering with federal, state and local government; not-for-profit organisations, academia and mission-aligned commercial clients. We help create new knowledge and guide decisions in areas ranging from overall Australian society to education and training, health and wellbeing, employment transitions and the labour market, and social cohesion. We specialise in research with and about marginalised and vulnerable communities and assessing service experiences and outcomes. In 2016, we launched Australia’s first probability online panel, Life in Australia TM, giving Australian researchers, policymakers, academics, and business leaders ready access to a scientifically sampled cross-section of the Australian community. The Social Research Centre is owned by the Australian National University (ANU) giving us unprecedented access to ANU researchers and its world-class research environment. In addition to more than 90 professional staff, we have an extensive data collection capacity. We’re proud to see findings from the Generation Survey featured by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News. The survey sheds light on how social media use is impacting the life satisfaction of Australian teenagers. Key takeaways: - TikTok linked to lower life satisfaction in females. - Discord shows a similar effect for males and non-binary users. - Facebook users report higher life satisfaction across all genders. Lead researcher Ben Edwards emphasises the need for a nuanced approach to social media regulation. Read more about how this data is informing the conversation on youth wellbeing and policy change. #SocialResearch #GenerationSurvey #ABCNews #ANU #YouthWellbeing #SocialMediaImpact

What do we know about disability support services in schools? GENERATION collected nationally representative data on services provided to students, which given the greater emphasis on disability services provided outside the NDIS should be useful information, see Kate Doery’s piece here: https://lnkd.in/gwDTz6pd

Why do some students change their plans for further study between year 10 and 11? New findings from the GENERATION study show the influences on the educational aspirations of thousands of young Australians. With the Universities Accord report recommending 80% of the workforce should have a tertiary qualification by 2050, this important survey is providing valuable pointers. The Generation project, funded by all Australian governments, is being led by ANU in collaboration with ACER and The Social Research Centre. It is following students from about 300 schools until they are 25.https://brnw.ch/21wMvth

This week, we had the privilege of having Shane Compton represent us as a speaker at the 2024 Comcare National Conference. Joined by Alicia Crabtree from WorkSafe Victoria, they had the opportunity to discuss Leading Indicators and the potential they offer WorkSafe Victoria, share insights, and engage with industry leaders. We are grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation. A special thank you to Alicia for her collaboration and to Comcare for organising such a significant event. We’re already looking forward to the 2025 conference! #Comcare2024 #PublicSafety #WorkplaceHealth #Collaboration #SocialResearch
It’s closing time for the 2024 Comcare National Conference. Day 2 featured more extraordinary keynotes: stories of resilience, hope and tenacity from renowned journalists Stan Grant and Peter Greste, and an engaging discussion on mentally healthy workplaces with Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman and doctor, lawyer and disability advocate Dinesh Palipana. There were more than 20 concurrent sessions, with significant focus on managing psychosocial risks and hazards. We also hosted a networking session for the more than 100 Health and Safety Representatives who attended the conference. Huge thanks again to our sponsors and the almost 1,000 delegates who came from around the country to share best practice and explore new ways to create safer, healthier and more productive workplaces. Keep an eye out for news on the biennial Comcare National Work Health and Safety Awards in 2025.
