When The Y Principle was created, it was important to me that I continue to create the same great experiences for clients as I had done for my executives and businesses in the past. Firstly, let me start out by saying as an onshore virtual assistant and business manager I don’t believe that the offshore industry is my competition. The Y Principle is an Australian executive support business that provides fractional, virtual and in person support to businesses that need a little or a lot of help. As an onshore business, we have context as to how Australian businesses operate, we understand local colloquialisms & nuances and as we most likely will have met in person, there is trust and assurance. What are the benefits of an offshore virtual assistant? Offshore assistants are often highly skilled at automated, data based tasks. They can be cost effective and given different time zones can often get work done outside of Australian business hours. So what is right for your business? To me, there are benefits to both, especially when they are engaged in the right way. Or, here’s a THIRD option…. Why not use both? When considering engaging an assistant, Business owners' most common concerns are trust and cost. Sometimes, a best case scenario might be to have your local, onshore assistant provide day to day operational support and have them manage an offshore assistant who can complete automated tasks when they are required. Leading by example at The Y Principle! 💜
My Personal Grind... (hear me out, its a short rant!) One sentence, four words. I’ve heard it two different ways. “That’s not my job” / “I don’t do that”. After almost 30 years in the administrative industry, in C-Suite positions and jobs that I consider are all service roles this sentence really gets me! To this day it still baffles me that people think it’s ok to say this to their colleagues and direct reports. Guess what - it’s a career limiting move and people remember the negativity they felt when they heard it. If you’re in an administrative role and someone asks you to do something that is not normally in your job description or if they ask for information and you don’t know the answer, try to help anyway or respond with “I’ll find someone to help you with that”. In my experience, I have learned new things and gained a higher level of confidence and trust with my teams. A consistent positive response will always increase inclusiveness. And hey, if the request is strange - I know there are some EAs & PAs out there who have been asked to do some odd personal things! - it’ll be a good story to tell (names changed of course). I’m actually thinking of writing a book about mine, 😂! Stay positive, be kind and enjoy the personal growth that comes with it 🌺
