I won't lie, this week has been a challenging one. Cyclone Alfred has put us on high alert, forcing countless International Women’s Day events to be postponed—including the two I was meant to lead this week. You can’t argue with safety. But that doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating for us the organizers, speakers, and our attendees who put so much into making these moments happen. So when a storm cancels your IWD event, do you: A) Shake your fist at the sky, demanding a cosmic refund? B) Use the unexpected pause to reflect and rethink? C) Laugh—because women’s power is so strong, it literally shifts the atmosphere? I (Caroline Starecky, founder of Leap Lab) did a little bit of B and C. Because if there’s anything entrepreneurship has taught me, it’s how to roll with uncertainty, adapt, and keep moving forward. And if there’s any group that knows how to weather storms and come out stronger, it’s women in business and female founders. Entrepreneurship is about agility — and sometimes, we have to pivot due to things beyond our control (hello, Cyclone Alfred!). This morning, we were set to host and facilitate Leap Lab's very first International Women's Day event—a unique and dynamic power breakfast and workshop, Accelerate Success, designed to inspire and empower women on their journey to success. Due to the incoming cyclone and safety recommendations, we decided to reschedule to next week... Rather than letting the time go to waste, we turned this morning’s allocated event time into a "bonus" online workshop, giving female founders the opportunity to take a strategic pause, gather their thoughts, and ignite a fresh perspective before diving into clarifying their strategy and enhancing execution. At Leap Lab, we (Caroline Starecky) facilitate high-impact strategy workshops and coaching sessions to help founders, teams, organizations gain clarity, set priorities, and execute with confidence. Through 1:1 strategic planning sessions, team workshops, and organizational facilitation, we guide leaders in aligning vision with action, bridging execution gaps, and fostering sustainable business growth. Whether it’s refining long-term goals, strengthening decision-making, or implementing scalable strategies, our sessions provide the structure and support needed to move from insight to impact. This morning, we explored the balance between left-brain and right-brain thinking in business strategy—how so much of our time is spent in logical, analytical, and task-driven modes (emails, analysis, numbers, meetings, planning), and why it’s equally important to tap into imagination, ideation, intuition, and visualization to create strategies that drive growth beyond the ‘same old, same old.’ A self-assessment framework we shared focused on three core pillars: ✨ VISION – Your North Star, the ultimate destination. 📈 DIRECTION – The key areas of focus to reach that vision. ⚡ ACTION – The consistent steps you take to make it happen. Everyone took a moment to reflect on their strongest and weakest pillars. This self-awareness is a powerful foundation for shaping growth strategies and ensuring long-term, sustainable success. But as many founders know, strategy alone isn’t enough—execution is where most businesses get stuck. Research shows that inaction often comes down to two key gaps: 1️⃣ Knowledge-Action Gap – "I don’t know what to do, so I don’t take action." 2️⃣ Intention-Action Gap – "I know what to do and I intend to do it, but I still don’t take action." Understanding which gap is holding you back is the first step in bridging it. The next? Finding the right allies, resources, and support to close that gap and drive forward with confidence. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲? If I had to share just one lesson with my younger entrepreneur self, it would be this: Hustle isn’t a strategy. When I started my first 'official' business at 21 straight out of university, I thought working harder would solve everything. But, surprise surprise, it didn't. When employees didn’t show up, I filled in. When things got overwhelming, I pushed through. And, I had a business partner whom I had not properly vetted. So all I did was burn myself out. What I should have done? Hire sooner. Set boundaries. Plan for cash flow. Vetted my partner by assessing their values, work ethic, financial stability, and commitment through open discussions and due diligence. Because scaling isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing less of the wrong things. What’s a lesson you had to learn the hard way? I’d love to hear from as many people as possible who have experienced entrepreneurship... You all have lessons to share that can inspire and reassure entrepreneurs of today.
