This week is Scams Awareness Week, a national campaign from ACCC that raises awareness to help prevent Australians from falling victim to scams. Scams are a serious threat to our Members and the community, as they can cause financial and emotional harm. At The Mutual Bank, we are committed to protecting our Members from scams and fraud. That's why we have been conducting a series of educational sessions at each of our branches and in the community this week, to help our Members learn about the different types of scams, how to spot them, and what to do if they encounter one. Some of the key tips we shared with our Members are: 🚨 Never give out your personal or financial information to anyone you don't know or trust, especially over the phone, email, or social media. 🚨 Don't click on links or open attachments from unknown or suspicious sources, as they may contain malware or phishing attempts. 🚨 Be wary of requests for money or assistance from people claiming to be your relatives, friends, or government agencies, especially if they ask you to pay via unusual methods such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer. 🚨 Always check the authenticity of the sender or caller before responding to any communication, and don't rely on the caller ID or email address alone, as they can be easily spoofed. 🚨 If you are unsure about a transaction or offer, seek independent advice from a trusted source, such as a family member, friend, or professional. 🚨 If you think you have been scammed or contacted by a scammer, report it to Scamwatch, the Australian Cyber Security Centre, or your local police, and contact us immediately. We hope that our Members found these sessions useful and informative, and we encourage them to share these tips with their family and friends. Together, we can fight against scams and keep our Members and the community safe.
