Eased prescribing regulations, multidisciplinary care, and GP-led diagnosis are urgently needed to address Tasmania’s inequitable and costly access for #ADHD support, the RACGP said at a Parliamentary hearing.

This week the GPs in Parliament event was held in South Australia at the Old Chamber at Parliament House. Hon Connie Bonaros MLC and Minister for Health Chris Picton both co-sponsored the event, with 23 MPs/MLCs visiting for a consult and to discuss our 3 advocacy priorities with our GPs. 1️⃣ Grown and sustain the GP workforce in South Australia, Provide GPs-in-training with incentive payments of $40,000 to encourage them to train in South Australia & Ensure junior doctors have the opportunity to experience community-based general practice during training 2️⃣ Rule out the expansion of programs that jeopardise patient safety by allowing health workers to provide potentially complex healthcare that should be provided by specialist general practitioners 3️⃣ Incentivise GP practices in South Australia to extend opening hours to boost access to essential healthcare outside of business hours, improving access to GPs and reducing pressure on emergency departments. The Premier, Hon Peter Malinauskas and Minister for Health and Wellbeing Hon Chris Picton were also in attendance.

Our 2024 Health of the Nation report shows that more than 22 million patients saw a GP in 2023. Making GPs the most accessed health professional in Australia. Less than 2% were unable to see a GP when they needed to. But general practices are still under pressure after decades of underfunding. We need meaningful investment in patients’ rebates to make essential GP care affordable for all Australians. Read the report here: https://bit.ly/4f4J9G9
