Exciting News for Queensland's Energy Future! This morning, Premier Steven Miles and Treasurer Cameron Dick MP announced a commitment to make energy more affordable and accessible for all Queenslanders while securing jobs for our members in the Energy Industry! If elected this month, Labor will establish a state-wide, publicly owned energy retailer designed to put people before profits and deliver cheaper power to households and businesses. The new retailer will spark greater competition and provide more choices, especially for members in regional Queensland, as it will compete directly with Ergon Energy. Not only will it deliver lower energy prices than privately owned retailers in other states, but it will also ensure that the savings from Queensland’s lower wholesale electricity prices are passed on to YOU! This new initiative will boost innovation and expand opportunities in solar and community battery pricing, giving Queenslanders more choices in energy providers! Additionally, it will drive competition, ensuring affordable and sustainable energy options for households and businesses—resulting in hundreds more jobs in the Energy Industry in regional Queensland! For our members in South-East Queensland, this new publicly owned retailer will actively compete for customers who are currently paying too much to private energy companies! Read more about this great announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gCTfUhyP On the other hand - the LNP will snatch our Energy assets and jobs away from us all! Our assets are #NOT4SALE - don't risk David Crisafulli and the LNP.

Superannuation on Paid Parental Leave has just passed the Senate! After years of determined campaigning by ASU members, the Federal Government has passed legislation to pay superannuation on government-funded Paid Parental Leave – a major step forward for gender equality in Australia.   This reform will help address the gender gap in retirement savings, with women retiring with 25% less super than men on average. Starting 1 July 2025, parents will receive an additional super contribution (12% of their Paid Parental Leave payment), automatically deposited into their super accounts.   This change will benefit over 180,000 families annually, with contributions reaching up to $3,000 by the time the scheme extends to 26 weeks of Paid Parental Leave.   ASU members led this fight for a stronger future where working parents, especially women, no longer have to choose between starting a family and financial security in retirement.

Today is Equal Pay Day! It marks the 50 days into the new financial year that women must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year. Something's not adding up. The Workplace Gender Equality Agency has identified the three main reasons behind Australia's gender pay gap: 1. Gender discrimination 2. Care, family responsibilities & workforce participation 3. Gender segregation by job type & industry What can you do? Visit: wgea.com.au to learn more. Ask your employer what steps they’re taking to close the gender pay gap in your workplace. #EqualPayDay #PayEquity #EndTheGap
