About us

THIS WAY UP™ provides online treatment programs, education and research in anxiety and depressive disorders. At THIS WAY UP, we empower individuals by giving them access to online help and treatment for anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. For clinicians, we provide them with training manuals to keep them updated about the latest and most effective way to treat anxiety and depressive disorders. All our services are based on the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), clinically proven and backed by research. THIS WAY UP is part of the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression (CRUfAD), and is a joint facility of St Vincent’s Hospital and the University of New South Wales. The unit was established by Professor Gavin Andrews to reduce the impact of anxiety and depressive disorders on individuals.

It's winter (in the southern hemisphere) tomorrow! Remarkably, the weather can affect how we feel, think and behave. Many people notice that their outlook can be partially influenced by the temperature, colour of the sky and how much rain or sunshine they get. If you're feeling a little down due to the cold, we share 6 ways to help manage your mood. ❄️ Increase opportunities for sunlight. This may mean rearranging your daily schedule as the sun sets earlier in the evening. Sunlight is a source of vitamin D, linked to better emotional health. ❄️ Maintain healthy lifestyle habits. The colder months can make us more prone to spending more time in bed, and eating comfort foods. Try to get some daily exercise to help your body generate those feel-good chemicals. ❄️ Stay connected with others. Even when it feels like a struggle to get out of the house. ❄️ Be flexible and creative. Regularly doing relaxing and enjoyable activities helps us to have a stable mood. Be open to trying new things. ❄️ Practice mindfulness. When we’re less active than usual, it can make us brood, with more negative or worried thoughts going through our minds. Doing activities mindfully can help us relax. ❄️ Practise gratitude. This can allow your mind to focus on and appreciate the more positive things that you have going on in your life, no matter how small they may be. Take care 💛 #wintermood #mentalhealth #winter #mindulness #gratitude #seasonalaffectivedisorder #selfcare #selfcaretips

An internal hurdle is a belief, feeling, or state of mind that can get in the way of achieving a goal or feeling satisfied with our lives. By identifying the barriers to our wellbeing and trying to engage in small, deliberate actions for our mental health, we can start to feel better. Over time we can learn to feel less impacted by stress and change. These actions might include staying connected by texting or calling a friend or loved one, healthy habits such as taking a short walk or stretching in the morning, or doing something enjoyable, like reading or spending time outdoors. You may also benefit from learning CBT skills such as thought challenging and structured problem solving. Check out our evidence-based programs if you’re curious: https://lnkd.in/gqhPvBen Take care 💛
