About us
Sustainability encourages businesses to frame decisions based on long term outcomes in terms of social, environmental, and human impact. Several obstacles face enterprises and their leaders during their transformation journey towards sustainability. It can often be difficult for companies to prioritise sustainability as it requires radical innovation, global integration, the institutionalisation of processes and the right business strategy. The THRIVE platform can help businesses, leaders, policymakers and everyday people become more aware of sustainability. THRIVE stands for THE HOLISTIC REGENERATIVE INNOVATIVE VALUE ENTITY Morris Fedeli created the THRIVE framework along with the Sustainability Performance Scorecard (SPS). The THRIVE framework, platform and SPS were created to shift companies’ mindsets from a passive, “business as usual” approach to an active and progressive approach to sustainability. The THRIVE SPS tool uses machine learning and predictive analytics tools to rank the corporate sustainability performance of enterprises and their strategy or business model. THRIVE SPS dashboard is the sustainability news hub for organisations. It allows enterprises to assess performance and forecasted effects of changes in regulations; such as taxes or subsidies on carbon credits. Contributing to a healthier planet, THRIVE framework and SPS tool aids enterprises transitioning from disclosure to exposure. THRIVE motivates business leaders to compete with one another and individual consumers to reward enterprises that focus on sustainability. Enterprises can use this platform to do good to do well for the prosperity of all humankind.

🚨 1.5°C is gone. It’s dead. Our carbon budget has just 200 gigatons of CO2 left—set to disappear in 5 years at current rates. To even have a shot, we’d need to cut emissions by a staggering 7.5% every year, more than the reductions seen during the COVID-19 crisis. That’s about 5 gigatons of CO2 annually, starting now. The reality? We’re on track for a scorching 3°C of warming this century. Forget the greenwashed promises—there is no “green transition.” We need radical cuts in emissions and fossil fuel use immediately. Tech won’t save us; consumption must drop, and fossil fuels must go. We have everything to lose, according to worlds leading climate scientist Stefan Rahmstorf "Personally, I consider a 3-degree world to be an existential threat to human civilization." Time’s up. The era of wishful thinking is over. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/dBaysgW6

Deforestation and poaching are linked to the zoonotic crisis we face these days. This article by the Stockholm Resilience Center examines the former and more can be found on the latter in a THRIVE blog article here https://lnkd.in/gF7_xn4y. For more on how forests contribute to human well-being, see here: https://lnkd.in/g6ywXbTr. For those unclear on what are zoonotic diseases and their connection to the food cycle then read on https://lnkd.in/gb5RfYKv. Our disruption to the very ecosystems that support are are beyond a mere 'itch'. Actors and actions within ecosystems are interconnected as explained here https://lnkd.in/gkn-ZGBt. If we are to resolve our present challenges we need to adapt and go beyond mere survival. We need to become self-sustainaing and thrivable. Find out more here https://lnkd.in/gpHe6c53. #THRIVEProject #ThrivabilityMatters #THRIVEFramework #ecosystems #sustainability #thrivability #thrivable #thriving #zoonosis #zoonotic #interconnected
How is deforestation linked to zoonotic diseases? A new policy brief shows how deforestation caused by producing products like palm oil, maize, rice, sugarcane, and soybeans increases the risk of zoonotic diseases by disrupting ecosystems. The brief offers guidance to financial actors on reducing these risks by shifting investments, practicing active ownership, and adopting better sustainability practices. Learn more: https://buff.ly/40d7ENl The brief is co-authored by Centre researchers Victor Galaz and Bianca Voicu.

I think we are experiencing a dangerous kind of toxic positivity around climate change these days. I see a lot of this in speculative designs and design conversations about the future. For me this can happen when speculations are no longer grounded fully in a representative understanding of our current state. The speculative designs become a delusional take on the choices and actual power we have in this moment. A few examples of current context... AMOC collapse. There is a chance of this happening in the next 20-30 years, and there is even a chance it has already happened. When it does European temperatures in some places could drop as much as 20 degrees, and makes current agriculture impossible. 70% of earth's wildlife, gone. This is total collapse. All since 1970. This is absolutely a mass extinction, from our consumption, destruction, and pollution at global industrial scales. And this isn't plateauing... this continues to drop, and a kind of zero is possible. Never going back. Research suggests, even if we were to limit warming to +1.5° (We're already past this), sea level rise and glacier melt will remain for centuries or even millennia. There is no cooling down the planet to a previous or "safe" state. Failed targets. There nothing to suggest that global leaders have the will or power to make the adjustments necessary to align global industry, economy, and activity with the science or promised targets (which are not aggressive enough). For me then, we have to understand that it is already over. We've already lost on climate. Our ecosystems have already collapsed, and many/most past the point of no return. This is the current state. And this needs to be our starting point for all design, speculative design, and futures exploration. Peddling hope is to deny the realities of our current state. It allows us feel good in the moment, but this is not based on a healthy action we've taken now, but rather from some imagined future state. And I think that's were the danger is. Start here, then explore those dire and horrific futures, and then as always ask "Now, what do we do today?" Protest. Strike. Revolt. Vote. And prepare (if you can) for unprecedented disruption and collapse. #futures #climatechange #speculativedesign #designfiction #design
