What is the social impact of tourism for host communities? As tourism grows, it’s becoming increasingly important to not only measure economic benefits but also to understand how tourism impacts local communities—the people, culture, and the region’s liveability that make a destination unique. Australian Regional Tourism Ltd (ART) will work with a region to develop a social impact frameworkthat helps regions assess how tourism is contributing to local wellbeing and community engagement. By focusing on areas such as local employment and community and social wellbeing, their assessment tools will give RTOs and LGAs the insights they need to make informed decisions and develop strategies that benefit both visitors and residents. Whether your region is just starting to explore social impact or you’re ready to refine your approach, this program is designed to support you every step of the way. From data collection to reporting, their team will work closely with your region to ensure the social value of tourism is quantified and becomes an outcome you conscious choose to improve. Join the growing number of regions that are leading the way in sustainable tourism by engaging with their social impact assessment program. I create vibrant regional communities through tourism and events | Tilma Group | Australian Centre for Regional Events
What a fabulous few days in Mackay Qld for the Australian Regional Tourism Ltd (ART) Convention! I was honoured to be flying the flag for regional events 😃 I have so many great take aways and fabulous new connections. Here is a quick video overview of the common themes (and my responses) that came up throughout my discussions with many thought provoking colleagues. ➡️ How do we maximise the value from events? ➡️ How do we move away from the volunteer dependency model to support the long term viability of events?? ➡️ Understanding the purpose of events ➡️ How do we change the way we support events that we have been supporting for a long period of time? Looking forward to Adelaide Hills next year!!! #ARTConvention2024 #RegionalEvents

Is your region maximising the economic value of events? In 2023 the value of all trips to a destination in regional Australia where the purpose of the trip was to attend a leisure event was $3.5 billion, with $744 in average trip spend per domestic overnight visitor, $129 per domestic daytrip visitor, and $1,176 per international visitor [Tourism Research Australia] We've just submitted an article on the power of events to drive regional visitor economies to Economic Development Australia Limited's Journal, with insights on how to maximise the opportunity. Watch this space! One of our favourite events, Birdsville's Big Red Bash, is a great example of this - drawing over ten thousand visitors to spend money on a 4,000km 11-day round trip journey through remote Outback communities

We love working for Councils whose values align with ours. We are currently developing an event sponsorship assessment framework for Noosa Council, which falls out of the Destination Stewardship Plan they are co-developing with community. Council's focus for events has shifted from supporting the visitor economy to supporting the community and the local environment. Council has committed to the Kabi Kabi Commitment to protect what sustains the community in all its undertakings. Read the Commitment at https://bit.ly/4daNpmm https://lnkd.in/gf7GZhqe
Historic signing | Kabi Kabi Commitment Today was a significant., emotional moment in Noosa Council's partnership with the First Nation's People of the shire. 🖊️The Kabi Kabi Commitment, signed by the board of Directors and Noosa's seven councillors, is a recognition of the role residents, businesses and visitors have as joint custodians to care for and respect the Noosa we love. 📌 Considered a first for Queensland, the Commitment between Noosa Council and the Kabi Kabi People acknowledges their deep cultural and spiritual connection to Noosa. Kabi Kabi invites everyone to join in looking after, caring for and respecting our land and waterways. They hope other councils will follow suit.
