In case we haven’t met, my name is Elena Muller, founder of Timemakers Consulting. Let me share a bit about my journey with you: At 8 years old, I created my first product for sale. I learned from it and tried selling different crafts to see which were more popular. Every twist and change gave me a valuable lesson in the business world. Fast forward to my 20s, I established a tutoring business, transitioning to full-time entrepreneurship by age 23. A move to Australia at this point forced me to a career reinvention, leading me to focus on meaningful work with not-for-profit organisations. I’m originally from Brazil, and I moved to Australia 17 years ago with my husband. Later on, we had 2 beautiful children here in Adelaide. At the age of 24, I landed my first job at ECH Inc., where I found my passion for the Retirement Living industry and had the opportunity to learn and understand the Australian business landscape before rekindling my passion for entrepreneurship. In 2014, I founded Timemakers Consulting, driven by my desire to improve, streamline, or eliminate tasks that do not add value to customers or the business in the Retirement Living industry. Regardless of the project or business type, I am committed to continuous improvement, delivering excellence, and fostering meaningful relationships. I understand the importance of aligning businesses’ values and am very keen to help organisations and increase the impact of work efficiencies in clients’ experience. For those interested in knowing more about what I do, DM me or visit www.timemakers.com.au. #Timemakers #Retirementliving #Entrepreneurship

This year marks 17 years for me in the Retirement Living industry! With ACCPA National Conference happening this week, I’ve been thinking about what’s made me stay in this field. Here are my top three, in no particular order: 1️⃣ My grandmother’s influence: Growing up with her at home shaped the way I see ageing and my respect for our older generation. This personal connection has been a powerful force driving my passion for this industry. 2️⃣ Continuous learning: When I first started, I had no idea what Retirement Living truly offered. Over the years, I've seen incredible changes and innovation, and this constant change keeps me inspired and excited to keep going! 3️⃣ The people: This is the heart of it all. From the operators and industry colleagues to the residents in ILUs—every person has made an impact. It’s their stories, their lives, and their contributions that make this industry so special. 💬 What about you? What’s kept you in the Retirement Living industry? #RetirementLiving #AgedCare #CommunityCare #ACCPA #ACCPA2024 #AgedCareIndustry #RetirementLivingIndustry #SeniorLiving #AgedCareProfessionals #RetirementCommunities #PositiveAgeing #RetirementLife #TimeMakers, Aged & Community Care Providers Association

I’m currently re-reading "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone" by Lori Gottlieb and it’s just as powerful as when I first read it in 2019. The book has truly shaped how I approach conversations, teaching me to listen to understand, not just to reply, and to show more compassion at work because you never know the battles others are silently facing. If you're looking for a great read this weekend, I highly recommend it! 📚✨ One of my favorite quotes from the book: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” I’d love to hear what you’re reading these days! Share your recommendations in the comments below. 📖👇 Happy Friday, everyone! #MaybeYouShouldTalkToSomeone #LoriGottlieb #Leadership #EmotionalIntelligence #PersonalGrowth #CompassionAtWork #ListeningSkills #BookRecommendation #Mindfulness #FridayReads #SelfAwareness #Timemakers

Everyone makes mistakes. It is just how it is. We don't necessarily, hopefully not, like making them, but without trial and errors at work, progress and innovation won't occur. Psychological safety, as Amy Edmondson describes, is “the belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes, and the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking. Inspired by this great picture from Roberto Ferraro’s post, here are 10 key behaviors that help foster team trust at work: 💡 Say “I don’t know” – Embrace vulnerability and build trust. 💡Give credit for success – Acknowledge and celebrate team wins. 💡Avoid micro-managing – Let people own their roles and responsibilities. 💡Provide and ask for feedback – Make feedback a regular, two-way process. 💡Encourage intelligent risk-taking – Allow creativity and innovation to thrive. 💡Thank people for raising concerns – Reward honesty and openness. 💡Focus on outcomes – Prioritise results over rigid processes. 💡Appreciate both big and small achievements – Recognition, even for small wins, boosts morale. Ask open-ended questions – Cultivate curiosity and continuous learning with “tell me more.” Normalise failure and mistakes are part of growth. Admit them and learn. #PsychologicalSafety #TeamCulture #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement #GrowthMindset #Timemakers

We are officially halfway through the Leadership Empowerment Program and just wrapped up our 3rd session this week! Over 70 students are attending each week, and it's been incredible seeing their enthusiasm and growth. This week, we looked at Conflict Resolution and Difficult Conversations, a topic that resonates with so many of us in the workplace. Here’s a quick insight into the three key skills we explored: ✅Active Listening – Truly understanding others’ perspectives by giving them your full attention. ✅Finding Common Ground – Focusing on shared goals to bridge gaps in disagreement. ✅Empathy – Acknowledging emotions and validating others' feelings to foster trust and understanding. Mastering these skills can transform how we approach challenging situations. #Leadership #ConflictResolution #SkillsDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth #EmpathyAtWork #LeadershipEmpowerment #TimeMakers #StudyAdelaide #InternationalStudents, StudyAdelaide

One of my favourite StudyAdelaide events and I run or attend over 40 of them each year is the International Student Awards. This year’s ceremony, held last Friday, recognised the incredible achievements of international students across 18 categories, including academic excellence, peer support, and employment-related rising stars. The most sought-after award, of course, is the International Student of the Year, only awarded to those who have won in one of the other categories. Congratulations to Richard Kennedy, this year’s winner! Richard, originally from Indonesia, is studying a Master of Disability Practice and Leadership. His goal is to bring together his legal background and disability studies to develop policies that are more inclusive and better serve people with disability. It was a particularly moving moment for me when Richard’s name was announced, as I had the privilege of working with him earlier this year through the MCCSA’s BEC project. Seeing his dedication and passion first-hand has been truly inspiring. Richard, you’re an inspiration and I know you’ll achieve great things! Well done! #StudyAdelaide #InternationalStudents #Inclusion #Leadership #Timemakers #Migrants #AustralianMigrants #SouthAustralia

Weekly Highlights & Learnings from the Lausanne Movement Congress! 🙌 This week has been all about the power of listening. With representation from over 200 countries, I’ve had so many opportunities to learn from the diverse stories and experiences of people around the world. I’ve listened to insights about life and work in countries like Indonesia, Nepal, Jamaica, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, the US, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Singapore, South Korea, Timor Leste, Japan, Norway, Estonia, China, and Brazil. 🌏 We’ve discussed how diasporas live and work, the significance of employment in various contexts, and how different cultures approach ageing and care. I also had the opportunity to share my own experiences in operational excellence in retirement villages and employability programs for international students, whether in group discussions, one-on-one conversations, or my action group sessions. As the week wraps up, I’m leaving with new knowledge, fresh perspectives, and having met people who are committed to making a positive impact in their work and communities. There’s so much to reflect on, and I’m excited to see where these new connections and learnings take us! #L4Congress #Leadership #GlobalLearning #RetirementLiving #Employability #Networking #Timemakers #InternationalStudents #Migration #AgeCare, Lausanne Movement

At the Lausanne Congress today, we tackled one of the most pressing global challenges, the Ageing Population. 🌿 In a rich discussion group with representatives from Singapore, Chile, the US, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Australia, we examined the current state of ageing populations and exchanged innovative ideas for the care and support of older adults worldwide. 🌏 It was fascinating to hear how different countries are tackling the challenges of an ageing population. I’m excited to return and share more about this important conversation and how it directly ties into my work in retirement living. 🏘 💡 #L4Congress #RetirementLiving #GlobalAgeing #AgedCare #RetirementCommunities #Timemakers #Lausanne Movement

What an incredible day! Among many thought provoking sessions, I had the pleasure of attending a panel discussion on Work and Purpose. As part of the session, I met the author Jyoti Guptara, story strategist at my discussion group table, who generously gifted me a copy of his book on business storytelling. I can already see how this book will be a valuable resource for our Leadership Empowerment program with StudyAdelaide! Another productive day, and I can’t wait for what tomorrow brings! #L4Congress #Leadership #Storytelling #WorkAndPurpose #StudyAdelaide #Timemakers @Lausanne Movement
