    What a week in Melbourne. It's that time of the year again #aflgrandfinal2024 and I always feel like a winner! It kicked off at the #MCG on Thursday at the Annual Skål International Melbourne AFL Grand Final Lunch. It's such a great day with travel industry friends from all over Australia coming in for the event. Highlights include a live performance by **Katy Perry** rehearsing for the big day - we're not allowed to say what it was all about but let me tell you it's going to be AMAZING. I won the first prize in the raffle - Paul Licuria...and a Collingwood jersey signed by a few of the players. My Dad is very happy. Wonderful and insightful talks by my new friend 'Paul' and the lovely Nathan Murphy. It was Nathans first time back at the MCG since he received a head knock that ended his career in last years Grand Final and he spoke about that. It was very hard for him and so brave. There were so many in the audience moved to tears and many Collingwood Mum's just had to get up and give Nathan a big hug. There was so much love in the room for him. We loved his stories about being Jack Ginnivans flat mate for 3 years...not sure he'll be allowed to tell many more of those in future speaking gigs. We were very lucky.     This is great news for selling international outbound leisure travel. The latest stats from the Australian Bureau of Statistics came out this week. You should see an increase in bookings over the next few years. If not, something is wrong. These trips will be high spending over 50s - not badly impacted by the cost of living. They take multiple trips a year and spend hundreds of hours researching on Google, whether they book through an agent or book directly. There is a huge opportunity here. Travel souvenirs have always held a special place in adventurers' hearts; among these mementos, collectible travel spoons stand out for their unique charm and historical significance. Once proudly displayed in homes, these tiny treasures captured the essence of personal travel adventures to bring home in a stylish and meaningful way - on proud display. I came across a spoon display in a small op/thrift shop and had to bring travel spoons back into my house from childhood. Collectible spoons have 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲d since the 19th century, initially popularised in Europe. Often crafted with exquisite detail, each spoon commemorated significant events and destinations. My current spoon display commemorates when Australia won the America's Cup in the 1980s and when Princess Di and Prince Charles visited Australia in 1983. I remember standing on the side of the road in the Outback on the way to visit relatives in Broken Hill.  I vividly remember the beautiful Dianna with the window down waving at our family. There's also a spoon there for Broken Hill. These mini masterpieces showcased intricate designs and engravings reflecting local culture and history, making them more than mere souvenirs—they were pieces of art. Travellers displayed these spoons at home as symbols of their adventures. Every collectible spoon tells a story. From the symbols etched into the handle to the unique materials used, these spoons encapsulated the essence of their places of origin. A spoon from New York City featuring the Empire State Building or one from Sydney with the Opera House. Each piece was a tiny canvas for local landmarks and traditions, turning a simple spoon into local cultural travel narratives. Unlike bulky souvenirs, collectible spoons were budget-friendly and easy to transport. They slipped into luggage without taking up much space, making them perfect for travellers who wanted to bring back a piece of their journey without hassle. Their affordability made them accessible to all travellers, and their compact size allowed for impressive displays at home. Building a spoon collection was like creating a personal travel timeline. Each spoon added a new chapter to the traveller’s story, making the collection a cherished keepsake. Proudly displayed in cabinets or on special racks, these spoons sparked lively conversations and brought back beautiful memories.
