Natural resource management (NRM) investment prioritisation need not be a whole new and frantic adventure every time a new grant opportunity is announced. There are a finite range of on-ground NRM actions that we can do and there is a common range of things that we care about (outcomes). The trick is implementing a prioritisation approach that allows portfolios of potential actions to be recast based on the priority outcomes for each new funding opportunity. Want to learn more? How do you deal with unknown unknowns in environmental modelling? When asked to represent error, we leap to quantifying different aspects of data error and proudly proclaim a 95% confidence interval. However, this neglects epistemic error – the Rumsfeldian unknown unknowns. When we are modelling pure physical processes, this may not matter too much as the science is quite mature. But predicting biological outcomes, or social outcomes is fraught with epistemic error because the science of causal response is not as well developed. By ignoring epistemic error we ignore the limitations in our process and system interaction understanding. Interested in learning more? In November 2023, after a successful six-month trial, Truii officially adopted a four-day work week, following the 100-80-100 model: 100% pay for 80% of the hours, with 100% business efficiency. Truii operates Tuesday to Friday, with a 32-hour work week (four 8-hour days), and the company is closed on Mondays. The team all work from home on Tuesdays and Fridays, and all Brisbane-based staff come into the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays. During the trial, we surveyed the team, and the results were overwhelmingly positive: 👉 No one reported increased stress with the switch to the 32-hour week 👉 100% of the team supported the change, citing no delays in work delivery 👉 The team reported improved work-life balance and in fact reduced stress 👉 Company revenue increased. As company founders, we’ve found more headspace to focus on growing the business rather than just managing it day-to-day, which has had a transformative effect. Additional benefits we’ve seen from the shift include: 👉 Communication processes were refined for smoother collaboration 👉 Standard operating procedures were implemented to streamline repeatable tasks 👉 Clearer roles and responsibilities were established, improving team efficiency. We’re thrilled to continue this new chapter, with an enhanced work-life balance for our team. Cheers to the Truii team for making this shift a success! #FourDayWorkWeek #WorkLifeBalance #TeamTruii #TeamCulture #EmployeeExperience #FutureOfWork #Environment #Truii #Innovation #4DayWorkWeek #WFH #WorkingFromHome
