We are an employer of choice. Our 750 employees deliver more than 50 services to almost 100,000 residents.

About us

Tweed Shire Council is the largest council on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. Covering an area of 1300 square kilometres, the Tweed adjoins the local government areas of Byron, Lismore, Kyogle, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast, with the NSW–Queensland border to its north where it divides the twin towns of Tweed Heads and Coolangatta. Council is the largest employer in the Tweed with a workforce of more than 750 employees across a wide range of professions. Through a budget of about $256 million, Council delivers more than 50 services to 41,500 ratepayers and almost 100,000 residents who call the Tweed home. In late 2021, Council was named Employer of Choice by Professionals Australia (Local Government Engineers’ Association) for its great employment practices within NSW local government. Professionals Australia recognises what workers throughout the region already know – people choose to work at Tweed Shire Council when presented with other employment opportunities due to its: • employment terms • great workplace culture • amazing location. Aboriginal Acknowledgement – We wish to acknowledge the Ngandowal and Minyungbal speaking people of the Bundjalung Country, in particular the Goodjinburra, Tul-gi-gin and Moorung – Moobah clans, as being the traditional owners and custodians of the land and waters within the Tweed Shire boundaries. We also acknowledge and respect the Tweed Aboriginal community’s right to speak for its Country and to care for its traditional Country in accordance with its lore, customs and traditions.

💦 We used to rely on heavy downpours every summer into autumn to replenish our water supplies for the drier months. But based on rainfall trends, we may see less rain when it’s most needed: during these hot months. We need to share the water we receive while ensuring there’s enough to sustain the fragile ecosystems in our forests, rivers and creeks. We're working to raise Clarrie Hall Dam to secure our water supply for the future growth of the Tweed - but it remains important we don’t use more than our fair share. We're asking our community to make some simple changes to use just 160L water a day, so we all do our bit to ensure there's enough to go around. ℹ️ Visit tweed.nsw.gov.au/target160 for more info.

We are pleased to announce that Council’s proposal to raise Clarrie Hall Dam by 8.5 metres has reached a critical juncture with the supporting Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) now on public exhibition by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. This is a pivotal moment for the future of Tweed’s water security, and we invite everyone to review the EIS and submit their feedback through the NSW Planning Portal: https://brnw.ch/21wNra4. The exhibition end date is Wednesday 6 November 2024. For more details on the EIS and information on how to make a submission, please visit: https://brnw.ch/21wNra5. View a hard copy of the EIS at our Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads offices, or access the documents digitally via the NSW Planning Portal. Raising Clarrie Hall Dam is a strategic initiative that would nearly triple its capacity, securing a reliable water supply for the Tweed until at least 2065. We encourage you to engage in this process and contribute to a decision that will shape the future of our community. #WaterSecurity #ClarrieHallDam #PublicConsultation #SustainableInfrastructure
