About us

Our Vision is that every Australian community thrives. We are passionate about supporting children and young people at critical life stages. Our key initiative, READ LEARN SUCCEED, operates across many geographically and culturally diverse communities. Development of early literacy skills and school readiness is supported through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Youth employment and career development are promoted through school and business partnerships. UWA addresses entrenched disadvantage with a place-based approach. The Hive in Mt Druitt, Sydney is a collaboration with the community to help children start school well. Our goal is to bring about community and systems change and break the cycle of disadvantage. UWA is a not-for-profit company registered in Australia, has DGR1 status and is also a Public Benevolent Institution. 🎤Dolly was in the building… We are immensely grateful to everyone who has contributed to our EOFY donation campaign at United Way Australia, supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. A Special thanks to Macquarie Technology Group, ORIX Australia Corporation Limited, and Tech Data for their incredible support through the EOFY Book-a-thon campaign for their staff. This campaign brought excitement and joy, especially with our Dolly look-alike visiting various sites. It was a fantastic opportunity for staff to capture fun moments with "Dolly" and celebrate their contributions. 📖 But the impact of your donations goes far beyond the fun. You've raised vital funds to ensure children enrolled in the Imagination Library receive the gift of books. These books are not just pages and pictures; they are gateways to growth, learning, and joy during a crucial stage in their lives. Your support is changing lives, one book at a time. 🙏 It’s never too late to make a difference. Join us in fostering a love for reading and learning by donating today: https://lnkd.in/ggaf6dNJ #imaginationlibraryaus #unitedwayaus #bookathon #donations #eofy

🙏 A big thank you to the incredible mentors from two of our corporate partners, Macquarie Technology Group and Tech Data, for their generous commitment to running Interview Skills and Techniques workshops for the Year 10 students at Plumpton High School. Darren Lowe, Simone Bozic, Fionán Mc Donnell, and Charbel Achmar dedicated their time to share invaluable insights on job hunting and interview skills, including preparation, creating a good first impression, proper handshaking, and answering interview questions. 🤝 These sessions are crucial for students as they begin to think about their first jobs and navigate the workforce. Our appreciation also goes to Plumpton High School for hosting us and to Gemma Avon for her passion and enthusiasm in making these sessions a reality. 👏 #UnitedWayAustralia #readytosucceed #unitedwayAUS #interviewskills #highschoolmentoring

As we approach the end of the financial year, you can make a meaningful difference in your local community through a donation to United Way Australia! Our goal here at UWA is to see every child Read, Learn, and Succeed. With your support, we can provide free books to children 0-5 through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, prepare high school students for the future, and build up our community we operate in! With Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a child receives a free book every month from birth to age five. For only $108, you can provide an entire year of books to a child. Our books are high-quality, age appropriate, and contain information that helps parents build confidence while reading to their children. 90% of caregivers reported that they read more often and for longer with the Imagination Library. When Kylie first signed her children up to receive books as part of United Way’s Ready to Read program, she was sceptical. After all, her children had never been interested in books before. But once the books began to arrive, she noticed an immediate change. “Simon loves books now, he’ll actually sit down and look through the books. And my middle daughter hated reading. It’s really helped — she will happily pick up a book now, it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen,”” she says. Don’t miss this chance to impact a young life. As the financial year wraps up, consider donating to help future leaders of Australia. Every contribution over $2 is not only tax-deductible but changes lives. Donate now - https://lnkd.in/ggaf6dNJ #EOFY #UnitedWay #ReadLearnSucceed #Nonprofit #Australiacharity

Two weeks ago, The Hive Mt Druitt launched their 4th Insight Paper: ‘An early intervention system that makes a difference for Mount Druitt’s children and families’. Over 60 attendees attended including Minister Edmond Atalla and representatives from the NDIS, NSW Health, Department of Education, Northcott, local early education centres, community stakeholders and parents. This paper was a collective effort with local partners to highlight how disability and early intervention services are not equitable for all families, showcasing the barriers that Mt Druitt families face in trying to get support for their children, as well as presenting 4 integrated solutions that could present a more equitable early intervention system for families who need it most.   We are grateful for the parents, early educators, WSLHD staff and Dr Rebekah Grace (WSU) for sharing their stories and expertise on the day. We are also thankful for those who attended and are partnering with us for the next steps. You can read the paper on the Hive’s website: https://lnkd.in/ezbC5TNp If you would like to learn more or work with The Hive, please contact us.

Join us in celebrating National Reconciliation Week and the incredible contributions of Indigenous creators like Annette Sax. We are proud to feature "Our Bush Animals" as one of the books newborn children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program receive. Created by Taungurung woman Annette Sax in partnership with Yarn Strong Sista, this special book beautifully reflects the teachings of her Elders and ancestors through the use of traditional ochre painting symbols. "Our Bush Animals" not only introduces our youngest readers to the wonders of Australian wildlife but also shares the rich cultural knowledge and heritage of the Taungurung people. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring this cultural treasure to our Imagination Library community, fostering early literacy and cultural appreciation from the very beginning. Together, we can honour and learn from the diverse cultures that enrich our society.
