Unity Housing, in partnership with Tatiara District Council and the South Australian Housing Trust, is excited to announce the construction of two new affordable rental properties in Bordertown. Targeting local workers and families on low to moderate incomes these homes, built by GJ Gardner Homes, are due for completion by June 2025 and will be rented at 74.9% of the market rate. This initiative reinforces Unity Housing’s dedication to addressing the housing shortage in the Limestone Coast region, where we already manage approximately 380 social housing properties. We look forward to more projects like this in the future as we continue our mission to enhance housing options across South Australia. #affordablehousing #unityhousing (Pictured left to right: Matthew Woodward (CEO, Unity Housing), Liz Goossens (Mayor, Tatiara District Council) and Jack Lawrence (Supervisor, GJ Gardner Homes, Naracoorte/Mount Gambier) on the development site on 9 October 2024).

Unity Housing’s 70-dwelling Henley Beach South project is hitting major milestones as the final stage - featuring 28 apartments across three storeys - has now completed its main structural elements. All 22 of Unity Housing’s retained affordable townhouses are making excellent progress, with three set for completion next month (October 2024) and the remaining 19 approaching lockup stage, tracking ahead of the contracted May 2025 completion date. Meanwhile, the 20 sold townhouses are nearly 95% complete and undergoing final works before being handed over to their excited new owners. #unityhousing #affordablehousing #communitydevelopment

We are thrilled to announce that Unity Housing has been honoured with two awards at the 2024 CHIA SA Excellence in Community Housing Awards! 🏆 Excellence in Community Housing Award Our Tesla SAVPP Project has been recognised for its groundbreaking approach to providing community housing tenants with access to the South Australian Virtual Power Plant (SAVPP). This initiative is a game-changer, offering renewable energy solutions and substantial savings on electricity bills to our tenants. By partnering with Tesla, we are not only enhancing tenant well-being and financial relief but also championing environmental sustainability. 🏆 Leading Community Development Practice Award Our Street Speak initiative was awarded the winner of the ‘Leading Community Development Practice’ award. This recognition highlights the project's success in enhancing engagement with Aboriginal tenants in the Limestone Coast Region and setting a new standard in culturally appropriate communication and tenant support. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our project partners, including Point Heard, KWY Aboriginal Corporation, the Department of Human Services, and the Community Housing Institute of Australia (SA). Their collaboration and support have been instrumental in making this project a success. Together, we continue to create lasting, positive impacts in our communities, and this award is a testament to the power of partnership and shared vision. A huge thank you to our incredible teams, partners, and supporters who have made these achievements possible. We are excited to continue leading innovation and making a positive impact in our communities! #communityhousing #excellenceinhousing #innovation #sustainability #culturalrespect #unityhousing

Today marks the commencement of National Homelessness Week, a time to raise awareness about homelessness in Australia and highlight the importance of social housing as a long-term solution. At Unity Housing, we create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes in places they want to live. While we have a strong history of providing housing to some of South Australia's most vulnerable, there’s still so much need yet to be met. Homelessness in Australia is worsening daily. Key Facts: ➡ 122, 494 people are homeless on any given night*. ➡ 1 in 7 homeless individuals are children under 12*. ➡ 23% are children and young people between 12 and 24*. ➡ 1 in 5 are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*. ➡ In 2022-23, 273,600 people were helped by homelessness services, but 108,000 more were turned away due to shortages (AIHW 2023). This means 295 people were turned away daily, with 80% being women and children, many fleeing domestic violence. Homelessness Week is a time to push for real change. Let's take action now to support those in need and work towards ending homelessness in Australia. *(ABS Census 2021) #HomelessnessWeek #UnityHousing
