Two years ago, on a trip to Melbourne, I met Zoë Scott. We were both travelling from Sydney, and we instantly clicked, chatting non-stop on the Sky Bus. Zoë Scott introduced me to Collabor8Women, and since then, our paths have continued to cross. She’s one of my absolute favourite people - I’m constantly in awe of her talent, determination, and honesty. Find out more about why she’s so brilliant here! 🏆𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗼𝗳 Running my life and career on my own terms. In my mid-20s, commuting over two hours a day to a dull cubicle job, I knew there had to be more to life than this. I started up my own business and haven't looked back.  🗣️𝗠𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 For budding designers starting a business today, my best advice is to master digital platforms, film, and UX design. Never give up or compare yourself to others. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the talent at Uni, but design has many facets, and everyone brings unique skills. 💡𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 To fail fast and use this as a learning tool to do better. Business owners don't like to talk about the f word (failing that is) it is a scary word that people often associate with being no good at what they do. Over time I've learnt that, that is totally not entirely right.    🌟𝗜𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 People who know how to read the room and the people within it. They understand the bigger picture and look out for people at a higher level. They're normally charismatic people with exceptional communication skills, are good listeners as well as being the ones who have the strength to call things out when they are not right or not working. 🤝𝗠𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 Leading with heart and authenticity. What you see is what you get with me - I’m all about setting a strong example, being open to fresh ideas, and focusing on people’s strengths. I'm here to help my team navigate challenges and grow, ensuring they feel genuinely heard and understood. 🚴♀️𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, I'm doing one of two things, either adventuring - whether by water, foot, bike or car or creating: whether that be craft, cooking or gardening.  ✈️𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 I think this would totally depend on the mood I'm in. I love going on adventures, seeing new things and having new experiences. My bucket list includes Japan, Canada, Scotland, Europe, and New York. 🌱𝗠𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲  My vision for my business has always been to create for myself a business which will suit my lifestyle so I can be a present mum to my kids as well as creating an income - enough to sustain living in Sydney. Like most businesses, this is a work in progress, and I look forward to refining it as things evolve.

Walking = Fresh air, fresh ideas, and the best conversations 🚶🏽♀️➡️🌳🌞 It’s amazing how a simple walk can spark great conversations - whether we’re chatting about work, life, or just taking a breather from the daily grind. These walks are such a great reminder of how important it is to stay connected and gain fresh perspectives. This week, I loved catching up with Tracey Murphy for Walks on Wednesday - she’s a brilliant colleague from my Optus days. Read more below to find out about her story! 💭𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗼𝗳 is being accepted into Stanford University Executive Residential program (People, Culture & Performance). It was an intense week of new learnings and new friendships from across the world. The topics from AI to Systems Leadership and a Mindset for Growth were insightful and practical. I was so lucky to be supported by my organisation to attend. 💭𝗠𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 1 - Show interest in all facets of People & Culture. 2 - Find someone outside of People & Culture, to expand their understanding of the business (helps to be a commercial partner, which is critical for People & Culture in today’s world) 3 - Find your passion and go for gold. 💭𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 is to be vulnerable. Allowing people to see your vulnerability promotes sharing and understanding. This promotes a healthy work environment which has the knock on effect of achieving individual, team and organisations goals. 💭𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁. I don’t think there has been one experience that has shaped me but rather the cumulative effect of experiences like moving geographically, bringing children up in the world of social media and COVID and the belief of others that gave me the opportunity to move my career forward. All these things have challenged my optimistic view on life, yet I have come through all experiences maintaining my positivity believing that if life gives you lemons you can make lemonade 😊 💭𝗜𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 generous with their time and encourage different viewpoints with the approach that someone else could have a better idea/solution. They are self aware and do not always feel their idea/solution is the best. 💭𝗠𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 collaborative and open in order to build a safe space for sharing. I also try to be as transparent as possible and provide the ‘why’ when change approaches. 💭𝗠𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 career 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲. Very much top of mind for me right now as I take the time to find the right next role. The culture of a company is core to facilitating a successful company and I want to find an organisation that believes this, from the CEO, across the leadership team and throughout the business.

In this Harvard Business Review article, “We’re Still Lonely at Work,” Constance Noonan Hadley and Sarah L. They challenge some of the common myths, like thinking remote work is the main cause, and offer real, practical ideas for creating more connection at work. It’s a great read if you’re looking to understand the issue and take steps to address it in your workplace. What steps have you taken to help your team feel more connected? How do you take time to unwind and manage stress during your workday? Today is 10th October, World Mental Health Day, and this year’s focus is so important: 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲. We all know work can be a major source of stress and burnout these days. It’s time we change that by creating a workplace where mental health matters and people feel supported to take care of themselves. Here are a few ways we can start: 💚𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Let’s make talking about mental health a normal part of work life, where people feel safe to open up. 💚𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Make it okay for people to take breaks, set boundaries, and recharge so they don’t burn out. 💚𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁:  Make sure team members have access to things like EAPs, counselling, or workshops to help manage stress. 💚𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺: Equip leaders and team members to notice when someone’s struggling and be ready to offer help. 💚𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀:  Acknowledge the hard work people are putting in and make sure they feel appreciated. Every little action adds up. By making mental health part of our daily work life, we can create more compassionate, resilient workplaces where people truly thrive. #mentalhealthmatters #workplacewellbeing #workplaceexperience Kath Harris Founder UnscriptedHR Helping #ceos #businessowners #hrprofessionals create #greatplacestowork

🌿 October is National Mental Health Month! 🌿 This year’s theme, 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, is a powerful reminder of the role we all play in promoting mental well-being - whether as leaders, colleagues, or organisations. Strong connections and supportive workplaces are key to fostering resilience, and now is the perfect time to reflect on how we can build healthier environments for ourselves and those around us. Whether through small actions or larger initiatives, creating a culture of care within our teams can make a lasting impact. Across Australia, events are uniting people of all ages and backgrounds to raise awareness and prioritise mental health. As leaders and colleagues, let’s seize this opportunity to start conversations, lead by example, and cultivate workplace cultures where mental health is a priority, and everyone feels supported.
