Rotation in the golf swing is key. One of the key areas of rotation in the body comes from the thoracic spine. The mid portion of the spine leading through the rib cage area can have a huge influence over your ability to load and rotate whilst staying centred whilst also influencing shoulder mobility too due to its interaction with the scapula (shoulder blade). In the video you can see us testing thoracic rotation into both left and right side using the VALD Performance dynamo which gives us great feedback on range of motion in the initial process of assessing a client and tracking progress over time as we continually check-in during training sessions.

Chasing Shapes As the ACL athlete moves into the mid-rehabilitation stages (months 3-6), we start to see a progression within the reactive strength continuum. The prescription here progresses the athlete through drills with faster ground contacts, working on foot/ankle pre-tension and ground force interaction (Pogos, Tuck Jumps, Drop Jumps). Early traces will show early force spikes with heel contact and excessive tibial translation, but as the athlete gets the desired adaptations, we start to see more desirable force traces and shapes. Here's an example of one of our ACL athletes DL Drop Jumps over 4 months of testing as she progressed through Strength Capacity (3) to our Return to Sport Phasing (5). The VALD Van recently visited Kelvin Grove State College for a testing day with nearly 700 student-athletes from their sports excellence programs. What made the day truly unique? It was a student-led initiative, with a class of students managing each testing station and running the entire event. We caught up with Amanda Fielding, our Global Talent Identification Manager, to walk through the day’s activities and highlight the value of performance testing with young athletes like these.
