Lidl is part of the Schwarz Group, one of the world’s largest retail groups, which operates over 13,000 stores across the globe. Lidl’s distribution centre (DC) in Køge, Denmark, outperforms traditional order fulfilment methods by using Vanderlande’s state-of-the-art automated case picking (ACP) solution. At its heart, the ACP solution uses ADAPTO, the shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS). Watch this video to see the full process. In her spare time, Senior Lead Analyst Garima Gupta enjoys exciting activities such as scuba-diving, paragliding and trekking. That sense of adventure came in handy when she joined Vanderlande’s Global Capability Centre in Pune, India. “Ultimately, when we undertook this challenging project, we needed to know that we’d have a powerhouse from the baggage industry to help us deliver it” says Rónán Dillon Murphy, Senior Project Manager for Infrastructure at Dublin Airport Authority. Dublin Airport is the busiest in Ireland and handled around 28 million passengers in 2022, a 231% increase on 2021 and 85% of the 2019 level. Located 7km north of the Irish capital, the airport has an extensive short- and medium-haul network, serviced by several airlines. Operator daa and Vanderlande completed the installation of a new automated baggage handling system (BHS) at Dublin Airport’s Terminal 1. “I’ve always wanted to work in the meeting point between technology and business – an ambition that is being realised at Vanderlande,” says Lead Front-end Software Engineer Michael Alpas, who is based at company headquarters in The Netherlands. “The work here is really exciting and we’re involved in some cutting-edge projects.” Michael is harnessing the latest technologies to create intelligent software solutions for Vanderlande’s worldwide customers. Automation has helped Van Gelder to transfer a number of picking staff to alternative positions in the warehouse. It is also assisting the team to get the orders out earlier. “The biggest advantage to me is that the orders are always correct now,” says Commercial Director and owner Anton van Gelder. “A system like this does not make mistakes, and everything is transparent including stock control, which has to run like clockwork.” Watch the process video to see how it works. #warehousing #process #automation #picking #orders #system
