  • Given Veolia ANZ’s strong commitment to Indigenous reconciliation, our teams are passionate about connecting with regional communities and businesses across Australia, where we can support First Nations people with access to essential services. We were delighted to sponsor the Voices from the Bush conference in Alice Springs this week. The event offered an opportunity for our team to discuss challenges facing the water sector in the region while hearing insightful perspectives from Indigenous communities. It was inspiring to share ideas about how we can all work together on solutions and continue advocating for the health and sustainability of regional Australia's future. Thank you to everyone who attended and we look forward to keeping these conversations going. You can learn more about how Veolia is supporting local communities nationwide through our water services here: https://lnkd.in/gQNJDdFX

  • Health and safety on the job is our top priority, and over the next two weeks Veolia is globally celebrating Health and Safety Week by putting the spotlight on “Breaking the Routine” and eliminating the risks that come with operating on autopilot, especially for everyday tasks. No matter where we work, when we repeat any activity often enough, we can become complacent about risks involved. Perhaps it’s operating heavy machinery, or even carrying a hot cup of tea back to your desk. This Health & Safety Week, we encourage everyone to be proactive, and work together to keep yourself, your colleagues, and the environment you operate in safe.

  • Did you know it’s important to space out your kerbside bins for collection day? Placing your bins too close to each other makes it difficult for the arms on collection trucks to reach around the bin. Without a gap, there is a high chance the arm will knock the bin over. Most council websites have bin placement guidelines, but to be most helpful, try to place your bins around 50-100cm apart, with the bin handles facing the house and the bin lid facing the road. It’s also important to be conscious of gutters in your street – bins placed in gutters can cause the wheels to catch the kerb and damage the bin, jam the side lifter, or even cause the bin to shift as it is being lifted, tipping rubbish onto the ground. Keeping to the guidelines will help make sure your bins and their contents are protected, and that our teams and trucks are able to provide the best service possible. ♻️ https://lnkd.in/ggtBSCvn

  • Veolia today welcomed Federal Environment Minister, the Hon Tanya Plibersek, to our Bibra Lake Resource Recovery Park where she announced an $8.3M grant to support a $15M investment by Veolia that will help further improve the quality of paper available for recycling. The grant is part of the second round of grants from Recycling Modernisation Fund, delivered by the Federal and Western Australian governments to boost Western Australia’s circular economy. The upgrade to the paper and cardboard sorting facility will deliver a maximum sorting and processing capacity of 40,000 tonnes. It will help us maintain strong export markets for this valuable resource used to create high quality recycled paper products and divert waste from landfill. As part of our #GreenUp strategy, we will continue to work with state and federal governments, local businesses and communities, to invest in and support Australia's resource recovery capabilities and sustainability targets. The Veolia-operated energy-from-waste facility in Kwinana, Western Australia, has just hit another key milestone. On Friday, it achieved its first fire on waste as part of the commissioning process, where non-recyclable materials received from customers fed into a combustion gate. The step tested the site's ability to maintain combustion without any support fuel - an important step on the journey towards full-scale operation. Once fully operational, the facility will generate 38 megawatts of low-carbon baseload power and repurpose over 450,000 tonnes of waste every year - enough to power around 50,000 WA households and businesses. • Some of our #NextGen cohort recently ventured south of Perth to check out the new Veolia-operated energy-from-waste facility in East Rockingham. The #EfW plant, due to be fully operational in the coming months, will deliver a significant source of sustainable energy – enough to generate power for over 36,000 homes. The site will treat approximately 300,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, diverting it from landfill in the process. After an induction, the team enjoyed a tour of the site and learned about how the facility's innovative technology will create a stronger and more efficient circular economy. Thanks to everyone who made sure our #NextGen team had a great day out!

  • We’re pleased to share the completion of a truly Olympic-sized project that will deliver high-quality water to 22,000 properties across Bendigo. Through our work with Coliban Water, significant restoration works were made to support water security in the region for another 30 years. The Specimen Hill storage is larger than 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools and delivers to customers including Bendigo Health and the region’s central business district. This project involved renewal works, repairs, and risk management like ensuring alternative water supplies in case of a major outage. We are continually aiming to provide our customers and communities with safe and reliable drinking water, so thank you to Coliban Water for helping us create a successful outcome for the Bendigo community!

  • We are thrilled to have reached a significant milestone in the Maryvale Energy-From-Waste project, which sees more than a dozen Melbourne councils choosing to divert their waste from landfill to this new state-of-the-art facility. The Maryvale plant will help us make better use of non-recyclable resources, and will help Australia accelerate towards net zero by managing Victoria’s waste immediately instead of leaving it for future generations. The site will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to an equivalent of removing 50,000 cars from the road!  It will also help us maximise the recovery of by-products created during the energy-generating process, like recycling, and support the creation of new jobs in the sector. • Australia has been recognised as a region ripe for investment in Veolia’s global 2027 #GreenUp strategy, with the western seaboard being a front runner for growth. Our CEO, Dr. Richard Kirkman, spoke to The West Australian last week, explaining how the policy environment set the right conditions for development, and where opportunities could be capitalised. From resource recovery, to food and garden organic waste processing and Energy from Waste, Veolia’s operations in the West are bringing lots of environmental improvements. • Did you know that Veolia sponsors Taronga Zoo's wildlife hospital and turtle research program, which supports the care and rehabilitation of turtles that traverse the east coast of Australia? Plastic pollution, fishing line and hook entanglement are major threats to marine species. It’s really important to be conscious of how we dispose of this waste, especially as the months start to heat up and we spend more time outside.  Make sure that your rubbish is placed in the right bin securely, especially near waterways! Find out more about the work we’re doing to protect wildlife by reading our new #ESG report here: https://lnkd.in/g4aiAzEz
