ROSEMARY - THE SYMBOL OF REMEMBRANCE For over a century, Australians have served in conflict and in peace around the world, protecting the values of freedom and democracy. Each year on Anzac day, we commemorate this service and the greater debt we owe the men and women of our Australian Defence Force for their courage and sacrifice. Rosemary is worn on Anzac Day as a symbol of remembrance and commemoration for those who served and died in the service of their nation. This tradition stems from the fact that rosemary grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey, where many Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought and died during World War I. Rosemary has been associated with remembrance since ancient times, as it was believed to have memory-improving properties. In literature and folklore, it became an emblem of fidelity and remembrance. The practice of wearing sprigs of rosemary on Anzac Day, often alongside the red poppy, is a way for Australians and New Zealanders to honour and remember their fallen service members. On the occasion of Anzac Day, wear a sprig of Rosemary with pride, for those that have served and who continue to serve; we offer our most sincere thanks and take the opportunity to remember those who are no longer with us. Lest we forget. #AnzacDay #LestWeForget #Remembrance

While the term "Easter" may have pagan origins, the Christian celebration of Easter is firmly rooted in the biblical accounts of Jesus' resurrection. Easter represents the culmination of God's divine plan for humanity, offering profound hope, forgiveness, and the assurance of salvation through Christ's sacrificial death and glorious resurrection. It serves as a sacred opportunity for spiritual renewal, collective worship, and joyful celebration, inspiring hearts with the enduring message of God's boundless love and grace. Easter is celebrated in diverse ways across the globe, reflecting unique cultural traditions and religious practices: Europe: In countries like Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK, Easter is marked by various customs. Spain observes Semana Santa with elaborate processions, while France celebrates with church bells and Easter egg hunts. Africa: Many African communities celebrate Easter with church vigils, traditional dances, and festive meals. Churches are adorned with symbolic decorations like 'Vitenge' and 'Kanga'. The Americas: The USA hosts the White House Easter Egg Roll, while Bermuda enjoys kite-flying on Good Friday. Mexico has elaborate observances during Holy Week and Resurrection Sunday. Pacific: Australia celebrates with hot cross buns and uses the Easter Bilby as a symbol to raise awareness about endangered species. These global celebrations showcase a blend of religious observances, festive activities, and cultural traditions that make Easter a richly diverse holiday worldwide, to be celebrated with friends, family and our loved ones.

What does the 26th of January mean to you? Australia is the oldest landmass on planet Earth. It is a beautiful land of extremes that hosts some of the world’s most unique flora and fauna that due to isolation and evolution, do not naturally exist anywhere else in the world. It has flora like the Wollomi Pine, one of the world's oldest and rarest plants dating back to the time of the dinosaurs, and fauna like the Platypus, a semi-aquatic, egg-laying mammal and one of Australia’s most iconic symbols. Australia is a beautiful but harsh country and since humans have been arriving at this landmass, it has also been a land of opportunity. It provided resources to the First Nations People and today, continues to provide resources and opportunity to all those who call Australia home, irrespective of where they were born, or which lands they originated from. Today the 26th of January, I am celebrating my 52nd Australia Day and the day a 10-year-old boy first arrived in Australia. I very much appreciate and give thanks for all the friendships and relationships that have developed, and the many opportunities that have presented since my arrival. There is much activity in the free press and social media commenting on the suitability and appropriateness of celebrating the 26th of January as Australia Day. Many people are objecting to the celebration of European settlers arriving to this country in 1788 and their impact on the First Nations People as the traditional owners of the land - and we need to be understanding and sensitive to those views, irrespective of our own convictions. For me personally and with my family, 26th January is the day we celebrate Australia, we celebrate our country, we celebrate our achievements, we celebrate our evolving culture, we celebrate our education, we celebrate our security, we celebrate our style of living, we celebrate our home, and we celebrate as proud Australians with friends and family. And I am a grateful and immensely proud Australian!
