Empowering Ugandan Farmers with Climate-Smart Agriculture Tools and Skills To combat the challenges of #ClimateChange and ensure sustainable agricultural practices in #Uganda, we recently trained over 70 stakeholders (district officials, farmer leaders, extension workers and water users) in the use of soil moisture and nutrient monitoring tools. These innovative #DecisionSupport tools help small-scale farmers optimize water usage, boost crop yields, and reduce environmental degradation. By providing farmers with real-time data on #SoilMoisture levels, we're enabling them to make informed irrigation decisions, preventing over-irrigation and conserving precious water resources. This not only improves crop production and productivity but also reduces fertilizer costs, labour, and greenhouse gas emissions. The training focused on the Virtual Irrigation Academy Ltd (VIA) tools, a user-friendly system that uses colour-coded signals to indicate optimal irrigation timing. As climate change continues to impact Uganda's agricultural sector, scaling up these proven #ClimateSmart technologies is essential for ensuring #FoodSecurity and building resilience. This training is a significant step towards empowering farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in a changing climate. Are you interested in partnering with us to scale up these climate-smart solutions? Let's discuss how we can work together to improve agricultural productivity and resilience in #Uganda and beyond. The training was organized by the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa in collaboration with MAAIF Uganda and the National Agricultural Research Organisation - NARO Uganda under the auspices of the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project.
