In this Insight Ophthalmic News CPD article (0.5T CPD hours), Vision Eye Institute ophthalmologist Dr Alex Ioannidis 'explores the intersection of two critical aspects of glaucoma care: the peri-operative contributions of skilled optometrists and the impact of ocular surface disease in glaucomatous patients. He also discusses how, when necessary, surgical solutions can alter the patient’s trajectory – often succeeding under the auspices of collaborative care.' #CPD #education #optometry #collaborativecare #ocularsurfacedisease #glaucomamanagement #istent #perioperativecare

This #WorldSightDay, we join the global community in raising awareness about the importance of eye care for children and young people. Every day, young people miss out on critical learning and social opportunities because of a vision issue that could be treated, corrected and often cured. Common eye conditions in children include ambloypia, strabismus and refractive errors such as short-sightedness (myopia). What parents and caregivers can do: 👉Get your child's eyes checked regularly, starting with the most important screening test between 3.5 to 5 years of age before they start school (in line with Vision 2020 Australia's National Framework loom.ly/01N-HwQ) 👉 Make sure they get plenty of time outdoors, limit the time spent on electronic devices and give their eyes plenty of breaks during the day 👉 Watch this recent ABC News interview with one of our refractive surgeons, Prof Colin Chan, talking about the rise in myopia: loom.ly/q1sGVnk Let’s work together to create a world where everyone can see clearly and live fully. 💙👓 #LoveYourChildsEyes #EyeHealth #Ophthalmology #VisionCare #HealthyEyes #EyeTest

Dr Jason Cheng, one of Vision Eye Institute's doctors and a board member for Sight For All, had the privilege to work in one of their sites in Cambodia training doctors in skills to manage glaucoma. 'I feel very honoured to have taken part and seen the difference that Sight For All are making,' he says. Doctors like Jason are making the world of difference to people's lives in underprivileged communities, which is why we are proud to sponsor this year's Sight For All #WorldSightDay campaign. Together, and with your help, we can help the fight against preventable blindness in Australia and around the world. #Thanks for making our East #Eye360CPD Evening in Kew a huge success! We think the attendee feedback says it all: 💬 'Wow - absolutely fantastic event' 💬 'Really loved the panel at the end where all the opthals answered questions and had a discussion. Thought it was really interactive and different!' 💬 'Topics were really good; some I haven’t heard discussed in previous CPD events.' The night featured a stellar line-up of our ophthalmologists - Dr Lewis Levitz, Dr Christolyn Raj, Dr Alex Ioannides and Dr Devinder Chauhan - presenting to an audience that included over 60 optometrists, as well as fellow VEI colleagues Dr Joe Reich and Dr Raj Pathmaraj. A BIG thank you to our special guests from Guide Dogs Victoria, Shelley and Delphie, for adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Of course, this wouldn't have been possible without some seriously hard work by our Victorian Clinical Relationships Manager, Kristina Iacovangelo 👏 We also thank our event sponsor, Vision Hospital Group , for their ongoing support. This event was part of our SHARED VISION educational network for healthcare professionals. #10yearsofSMILE #SMILEtember 🎉 Earlier this month, the Vision Eye Institute team of Sydney laser eye surgeons (Prof Colin Chan, Dr Tess Huynh, A/Prof Michael Lawless, Prof Gerard Sutton) celebrated an exciting milestone – 10 years of performing small incision lenticule extraction (#SMILE #SMILEpro) vision correction surgery! In fact, this team includes some of the first Australian surgeons to perform SMILE, as well as other refractive procedures. Since 2014, around 8,000 SMILE surgeries have been completed at the Vision Eye Institute Chatswood Laser Suite. But SMILE isn't for everyone, which is why our surgeons offer the full range of vision correction treatments – from laser eye surgery (SMILE, #LASIK #PRK #ASLA) through to intraocular surgeries like #RefractiveLensExchange and #ImplantableContactLenses.
