  • R U OK?

TLC Early Learning Trainer and Project Coordinator

Let’s make asking 'R U OK?' a conversation we have every day. Often, a smile can hide deep struggles, and it only takes a simple question or a thoughtful gesture to gently peel back those layers. By reaching out with genuine care, we create space for others to feel seen and heard. Remember, your kindness may be the key that unlocks someone’s silence, offering them comfort and connection when they need it most.

  • Calling all ladies to come together and Dance. Dancing is a holistic activity that benefits the mind, body, and soul. It releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones, which can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression. Dancing among fellow women can foster a sense of empowerment and confidence. It allows women to embrace their bodies, express their individuality, and feel empowered in a supportive environment. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, build friendships, and strengthen existing relationships. For more information contact 9791 1449.

  • In 1973, Pakenham Shire was split from Berwick Shire. In 1974 the Pakenham Shire council, led by Deputy Shire Secretary, Ray Canobie, decided to hold a festival in the Pakenham Shire to celebrate art and culture of the growing community.  In 1975, a festival committee was established, with the first order of business to hold a competition to name the festival and design an emblem to represent it. The festival was dubbed Yakkerboo, a word derived from indigenous language meaning place of greener pastures. The Mr Yakkerboo emblem was designed by a local school teacher. The design is based on a bunyip, with the tail as a question mark as everyone wonders what Mr Yakkerboo is. The Mr Yakkerboo logo was first used in advertisements for the inaugural 1976 Yakkerboo festival. The festival will be held on the 20th and 21st April at the Pakenham Library ovals. SATURDAY 20th APRIL 5pm – 9pm Rides at Carnival Prices Food Trucks Live Music and Open Mic 9pm Fireworks SUNDAY 21st APRIL 10am-4pm 10am Walking Parade Food Trucks Market Stalls Entertainment FREE Library Colouring Competition and Lego Community Displays CFA John St Open Day – explore the Fire Trucks and BBQ Unlimited rides, pony rides and face painting from 11am – 4pm with $15 wristband See below for details on purchasing wristbands.

  • Eid ul Fitr An important religious holiday that celebrates the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Also known as the festival of the ‘Breaking of the Fast’. Eid al-Fitr is an important Islamic holiday for Muslim communities across Australia. Sheer khurma (a dish of dates cooked in milk) is usually eaten in the morning of Eid al-Fitr. It is a busy time for mosques throughout Australia, where worshippers flock for early morning prayers. Many Muslims dress in their finest clothes and adorn their homes with lights and other decorations. Old wrongs are forgiven and money is given to the poor. Special foods are prepared and friends or relatives are invited to share the feast. Gifts and greeting cards are exchanged and children receive presents. Eid al-Fitr is a joyous occasion but its underlying purpose is to praise God and give thanks to him, according to Islamic belief.
