Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery has officially opened its doors to the community and to the world. WAM Principal Ralph Roberts has worked on the project since its inception. Growing up in Whanganui, and visiting the gallery often, Ralph says he is filled with immense pride to have contributed to realising this new facility. "The opening weekend of the Sarjeant Gallery exceeded all expectations. It was a truly remarkable celebration - not just of the 26-year journey with WAM since the architectural competition, but of a journey that reimagines its significance for iwi, the community, and future generations. "For me, as an architect, it has been a privilege to collaborate with the arts community, and particularly with Te Hei, iwi and the Te Kāhui Toi artists, throughout the co-design process. This building is not only a place for the arts but a testament to preserving and honouring Whanganui’s heritage for the future of Aotearoa New Zealand. "Looking ahead, I have full confidence in the Sarjeant Gallery team’s commitment to its ongoing success. There are many exciting exhibitions and events planned, ensuring that the gallery continues to be a vibrant hub for the city and its visitors." COP29 Azerbaijan has begun, bringing global leaders together to advance solutions to the defining issues of our time. In attendance this year is Emily Newmarch, WAM’s Low Carbon Design and Research Specialist, who will provide exclusive insights from the conference floor. This year’s summit, dubbed the ‘Finance COP,’ focuses on mobilising funds and strengthening global commitments to tackle climate change. Leaders, especially from vulnerable regions like the Pacific Rim, are assessing progress, setting new goals, and pushing for urgent action. Central to these efforts is the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), which aims to direct financial resources to support climate mitigation and adaptation. At WAM, we see COP29 as an opportunity to align our work with the latest climate science and policy, inspire global action, and lead the charge toward a sustainable future. To bring you up to speed with the conference, here's the latest from Baku, and the top five things you need to be aware of: https://lnkd.in/dwv5fmEM

Waimarie - Lincoln University (NZ) Sciences Facility has been awarded the prestigious Education Category Winner at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore, cementing its status as an exemplar of sustainable design, innovation and academic excellence. Designed by Warren and Mahoney in association with Lab-Works Architecture, this recognition celebrates a project that not only addresses the pressing challenges of our time - but also transforms the way we think about the relationship between education, research, and the environment. Playing a crucial role in advancing technology and stratospheric exploration, Mark Rocket’s success story illustrates how homegrown talent can take on the world by pushing the limits of innovation. We were privileged to host Mark Rocket last week for our fifth instalment of Amplify: The Creator Series in our Christchurch studio. Our reflections: ◾ Fear is the enemy: Fear can stifle creativity and strategic thinking. Create an environment that allows for innovative ideas to flourish. ◾ Imagine a better world: Your passions can drive meaningful change and serve as powerful motivators. ◾ Environmental responsibility: Our planet's atmosphere is fragile. Tread lightly, with care and consideration for sustainability. ◾ Embrace a winning mindset: Success is largely influenced by maintaining a positive and determined attitude. Think big. As architects, designers, and creators, we share a common passion for creativity, environmental responsibility, and a strong mindset in driving innovation and successful outcomes. A huge thank you to Mark who shared his inspiring vision and creative approach that he applies to his craft. Many thanks to all who came along, we can't wait to reveal our next Amplify speakers. Stay tuned for event details coming soon.
