Two years ago, my wife and co-founder, Leanne, encouraged me to find a better work-life balance and signed me up for art classes. Once every six weeks we have the absolute privilege of being part of something truly special. As a team, we came together to give back to the community. Alongside the incredible efforts of volunteers, we served up 59 warm meals filled with care—sausages, vegetables, garlic potato mash, and sticky date pudding with custard for dessert. The joy on everyone’s faces reminded me how much of a difference we can make when we work together. Working alongside our Waste Free Systems team of talented salon owners giving fresh haircuts to some 14 amazing individuals. A fresh cut, a smile, and a renewed sense of confidence—it’s moments like these that remind me why we do what we do. Special thanks to OzHarvest Sunshine Coast and Gympie, Gateway Care, and SecondBite for the rescued produce that made this all possible. And of course, a big shout-out to Richard from The Coffee Crew for generously serving 28 espresso coffees! Together with Orange Sky Laundry Services, who handled 9 loads of laundry, and VacSeen Medical students who offered support, this was more than just charity work—it was about restoring dignity, providing hope, and showing that when we come together, we can create real change. In this project, we carefully measured and laid out the geotextile fabric, securing it with a rock barrier. Then, we added layers of worm castings and hair underneath for even greater impact. The result? A stable, environmentally conscious ground cover that’s as effective as it is sustainable.
