November in the D'harawal Country and language area is the time of Parra'dowee - Goray'murrai (warm and wet) 🌦️🌿 November - December. This Season begins with the Great Eel Spirit 🐍 calling his children to him, and the eels which are ready to mate make their way down the rivers and creeks to the ocean. 🐟 It is the time of the blooming of the Kai'arrewan (Acacia binervia) 🌼 which announces the occurrence of fish in the bays and estuaries. ➡️ weavr software tour - weavr is the ⭐only tool developed specifically for organisations to track and report on the progress of their commitments towards First Nations People and Social Impact - made, led and operated by First Nations hands 🫶🏽✊🏽. Join the team for a tour of this unique tool and streamline how you implement positive change with informed decision-making. (use the link in the comments below to register!) ➡️ The 20-year anniversary of Mulrunji's death in custody on Palm Island - serves as a poignant reminder of the deep-rooted issues surrounding Indigenous deaths in custody and the persistent call for justice and reform. ⚖️ Mulrunji's death in 2004 sparked widespread protests and highlighted systemic failures in the treatment of Indigenous people within the legal and prison systems, underscoring the urgent need for continued advocacy and change. ✊🏽 ➡️ 'Outcast in our own land' - In his address on 27 November 1939, reported by The Argus, Doug Nicholls, an Aboriginal footballer and activist, highlighted Australia's poor treatment of Indigenous people, describing it as "the skeleton in the cupboard of Australia's national life" and lamenting how they had become outcasts in their own land, deprived of rights and privileges even extended to foreigners, while appealing for education and basic citizenship rights. 📚⚖️

It's been over 2 years since 15-year-old Noongar Yamatji boy Cassius Turvey died in 2022. Cassius was walking home from school when he was attacked on the street in Middle Swan with his friends. Yesterday was a special day, as Cassius' favorite day of the year was Halloween. The memorial plaque below was was unveiled in Halloween last year, where the Turvey family encouraged those who attended to dress in their best Halloween costumes in his memory. Cassius' story needs to be known and remembered by everyone. This is why #reconciliation needs to change, this is why we do what we do at weavr. #Forever15 Forever deadly Cassius ❤️💛🖤 Check Mama's on a Mission - Mechelle Turvey episode in Australia Story

Today marks weavr's 3️⃣rd anniversary of working with deadly organisations, and even deadlier people committed to Reconciliation. It took co-founders Natalia Florez and Kieran Shirey over 18 months to develop weavr with our Innovating partners: CSIRO, Advance Queensland and MEGT. @Louisa Warren Duncan Kerslake PSM Chris Dale Below is a short clip of our launch day in 2021. Brother Kieran's words still ring true today, and are more important, now than ever: "Weavr is a tool to make it easier to do reconciliation more 💡 skillfully - But it is 🌿you who are the solution in reconciliation..." "Together, we can show our mob 🖤💛❤️ 💚🖤💙🤍 that technology is a place where our people can make an impact 🔮" 3 years on, and we now work with over 60+ organisations and 1,000's of users across the country on both their reconciliation, and social impact strategies. We continue to be excited and humbled to see more organisations join the weavr family every month! Here's to another the next year on this joint reconciliation journey with all the social impact leaders who continue to make such an important difference in this country 👏

🔸The Great Australian Silence 2.0 - In 1968, anthropologist W.E.H. Stanner talked in his Boyer lecture After the Dreaming about the “cult of forgetfulness” practiced on a national scale in Australia, which he termed “the Great Australian Silence” - where Australians do not just fail to acknowledge the atrocities of the past, but choose to not think about them at all, to the point of forgetting that these events ever happened. The fragile reality that Indigenous Affairs has forever been teetering on becoming completely assimilated only took a major step closer because of the Voice vote. ❌Both sides failed and, as a result, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, and real Culture, are now spiralling towards complete disappearance because of the new Great Australian Silence🤫 Here's 👉some facts that we have put together, and as always, some encouraging thoughts: https://buff.ly/3zZby1G These have been very hard times... some we thought we wouldn't have to experience in this generation. Some days it gets harder to get the strength to continue, yet here we are, trying to convince you to care

In the lead up to the anniversary of the failed Voice referendum, next week is expected to be very difficult for First Nations people 🖤💛❤️ 💚🖤💙🤍 We recommend everyone to be supportive, read about Cultural Load, and be there to support mob around you🫂 Here is an example 👉Cultural Load Guide, by the Aunty Munya Andrews and the team at Evolve Communities https://lnkd.in/gpcCBCKK
