Social media plays a huge role in our lives today 📲🌏 While we acknowledge the wellbeing challenges, it's also undeniable that social media offers a space for connection, information, and community. For many young people, it's where they find their voice and where they amplify it. The Australian Government's new age restrictions on social media access 📱🚫 will significantly impact young Australians. But where are their voices in this conversation? At WhyNot, we believe that the young people who will be most affected by these changes should be part of the decision-making process. Their perspectives matter, and their voices deserve to be heard. We’re calling on young people to share their experiences with social media. How has it impacted you? What do you think about these new restrictions? 🎤 Your voices are powerful, and we want to amplify them. Share your thoughts, and let’s make sure no one is left out of this important conversation. 🗣️ #Amplifyyourvoice #DigitalLiteracy #YouthRights #SocialMedia #education #whynot The Y Australia

Wear it Purple Day is fast approaching, so we’re sharing some tips for supporting LGBTQIA+ young people to feel safe in your organisation.   Many LGBTQIA+ young people experience discrimination, harassment and violence, which can make it harder for them to let someone know if they’re feeling unsafe or being harmed. This is why it's important to participate in events like these and make it clear that all children and young people are welcome, respected and celebrated in your organisation. They should feel able to express their identity and raise concerns about their own or others’ safety.   Paying particular attention to the needs of LGBTQIA+ young people is also a minimum requirement of Child Safe Standard 5 in Victoria, which requires organisations to ensure equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.   Check out our tips below for making your organisation safe for LGBTQIA+ children and young people and complying with Child Safe Standard 5.   You can find more information about Child Safe Standard 5 on our website: https://lnkd.in/dntbEebE   To get involved with Wear it Purple Day on Friday, head to: https://lnkd.in/fgh9PaX

LGBTQIA+ people won't be included in the next Census. Again. It was looking like 2026 would finally be the year LGBTQIA+ Australians and families would be counted, helping to shape services and policies. But yesterday, the Federal Government announced that there will be no changes made to the Census to reflect any questions surrounding LGBTQIA+ identities. This is despite the Australian Bureau of Statistics proposing a shortlist of changes – including capturing Australian people's gender identity, sexuality and variations of sex characteristics. Our community is being pushed into invisibility. And with Wear It Purple® Day this Friday, it's a timely reminder of the importance of visibly advocating for LGBTQIA+ identities. Whether you're a part of the community, or an ally, use your voice to amplify the needs of LGBTQIA+ people. What can you do to help? 🌈 Sign Equality Australia’s petition via equalityaustralia.org.au 🌈 Visibly advocate for LGBTQIA+ voices – Wear It Purple® Day on Friday is a great opportunity to do so! 🌈 Stay up to date with the news, and engage in the issues that matter to you The work is not done. Keep promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusion. #CountUsIn *Used under license from Wear It Purple Incorporated – wearitpurple.org

📉 Did you know? Globally, only 2.6% of parliamentarians are under 30, and less than 1% of these young MPs are women. This stark underrepresentation underscores the need for increased opportunities for young people and women in politics. Let’s work together to ensure that our political systems reflect the diversity and dynamism of the global population. 🌐 #YouthRepresentation #WomenInPolitics #PoliticalInclusion #FutureOfPolitics #whynot
