We have recently taken on 22 school canteens across Canberra! Through Canteens 4 Kids ACT, we’re committed to providing students with healthy, nutritious meals and creating meaningful employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers to work. This is one of the many ways we're expanding our community impact. Beyond school canteens, we’re also making a difference with our Pulse Catering and Home Maintenance services. Did you know WCS started as a telephone service to combat loneliness? Maisie Griffiths and a group of Canberra locals helped found WCS in 1969. From their loungerooms, they offered a phone service for counselling and referrals, which quickly expanded into playgroups, babysitting, and transport services. Over the last 55 years, we’ve grown those services to support the wider Canberra community, including mental health, early learning, aged care, and more - all with a connection at our core. As we wrap up Mental Health Month and reflect on this year’s theme of Connected Canberra, we want to thank our dedicated team for their passion and hard work in fostering these connections every day. We're inviting everyone to a BBQ at Edison Park this Wednesday 30 October, 12 pm-3 pm, to celebrate our community and bonds. This event was made possible thanks to funding provided by the Mental Health Month ACT Reimbursement Grants Program. Find out more about our event and RSVP here! 👇 https://lnkd.in/gXNDfUif Let’s keep building on the foundation that started it all. Today, our Youth Engagement Team (YET) was privileged to attend the Canberra Community NAIDOC Week event at Canberra College. The theme, "Keep the Fire Burning Blak, Loud and Proud", is a powerful call to reclaim narratives, amplify voices, and stand firm for justice and equality. We are proud to support events like these, which celebrate the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Let’s keep the fire burning together - loud and proud. #NAIDOCWeek #KeepTheFireBurning #YouthEngagement #CommunityPride #WodenCommunityService
