Working to make Wollondilly an even better place, together.

About us

On the Southern outskirts of Sydney, Wollondilly is surrounded by spectacular natural beauty and rural pastures. Its 2,560 km2 stretch from Yanderra in the south and Appin and Menangle in the east, to Warragamba in the north and the Nattai Wilderness and Burragorang Valley in the west. The district is rich in Aboriginal and European history. A colourful tapestry interweaves the Dreamtime legends of the Gundangurra and Tharawal people on a backdrop of gorges, ranges and plains, with a rural patchwork created by the white settlers who followed the first fleet's famous staying cattle to the Cowpastures. Today, it is the lifestyle of the area that attracts visitors and Council is committed to a planned and balanced development that will maintain community values and lifestyle choices.

  • As we come together for R U OK? Day, it’s a powerful reminder to check in with those around us and start meaningful conversations about mental health. A simple "Are you okay?" can make a world of difference in someone’s life. Here at Wollondilly Shire Council we celebrated the day with a staff BBQ to connect and check in AND our Senior Leadership team BBQing for us!

  • 🚜 Agriculture is part of the fabric of Wollondilly, and we want to help our farmers to continue to flourish into the future. To support our farming community, we have developed the AgriHub – a virtual information and resource centre for all things agriculture. On the AgriHub webpage you will find handy guides for new farmers, details on our farmland rating system, where to sell produce, recent planning changes to encourage agritourism, and links to rural news outlets and a variety of agriculture-related topics. There’s even a farmer’s toolkit, plus much more. If you are an existing farmer, rural landowner or looking to invest in the Dilly, we encourage you to take a look at the AgriHub here >> https://lnkd.in/gwiWK9DJ

  • Yesterday our staff, along with some Menangle community members, held our first meeting to establish a community garden at the Old Menangle School site. Thanks to a $30K grant through NSW Government’s Places to Roam Program, our Parks and Recreation team will work with a local community group to coordinate and fund the community garden set up. The local community group is hoping to attract other interested gardeners to bring their experience and vision to this valuable project. If you are interested in being a volunteer for the community garden, contact Sue Peacock on 0425 203 429. • 🌿 SWAPPING WEEDS TO NATIVES Adam and Braeden from Council’s Environment team have been busy promoting Council’s Swapping Weeds to Natives program, which has been very well received by the community so far. Privet and African Olive are invasive weeds that are found in the Wollondilly Shire and negatively impact our environment. Property owners can now remove these weeds from their property and replace them with native bird-loving species from the Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery, for free. Residents just need to take a before and after photo of the weeds being treated and bring the photo along to the nursery to claim their native plants. Great work team!

🏗 Last Thursday our Building Approval and Certification team along with the Business Support team held the inaugural Wollondilly Building and Development Forum. 👷♀️ Hosted in the Council Chambers, the Forum provided a great opportunity for the stakeholders from the Shire’s home building and development industries to come together, network and hear from some fantastic speakers, including our very own Stephen Gardiner who spoke on Growth Areas. We also heard from Tim Rossiter, MiTek General Manager who spoke on residential timber framing including engineering products and software, and Eric Byrne from Byrne Technical Services who presented on waterproofing construction changes and latest revision of NCC and Standards. 👏 Well done team!

  • 🏞️ NEW MANAGER PARKS & RECREATION APPOINTED AT WOLLONDILLY SHIRE COUNCIL 🏞️ After a competitive recruitment process, Daniel Grimson has been appointed to the role of Manager Parks & Recreation in an exciting internal promotion. Daniel has been part of the team at Wollondilly since January 2017, when he started as a Project Officer in the Infrastructure Planning Department after five years at Bankstown City Council. He moved into the Infrastructure Operations Team in 2019 as a Civil Projects Officer and then into the Building and Procurement Team Leader role, after delivering the Warragamba Inclusive Playspace. Dan joined the Parks and Recreation Team as the Buildings and Operations Team Leader in 2022 and held the role of Local Emergency Management Officer from 2021 to 2023 throughout the various flood events in 2022. On being appointed to the role, Daniel said, “I am looking forward to leading the team through the imminent growth and maintaining the focus on community satisfaction and service delivery. The growth of Council will see many new assets come online, and I will continue to place attention on reinvigorating our existing parks, reserves and community buildings.” Director Shire Services Peter Buckley was excited to announce the promotion of Daniel to the role. “Since joining Wollondilly Shire Council in January 2017, Daniel has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication, and lives our Wollondilly Shire Council values every day. Daniel’s leadership during the flood events of 2022 as our Local Emergency Management Officer is a testament to his commitment and capability,” he said. “With Daniel’s strong focus on stakeholder, community and facility management, he brings a wealth of experience to this new role and I am sure the organisation will be so pleased for Daniel, particularly his own team members. We are confident that under his guidance, the Parks and Recreation team will continue to thrive; with a focus on community satisfaction, service delivery, and the reinvigoration of our existing parks, reserves, and community buildings.” 👏 Congratulations Dan! 📷 Peter Buckley and Daniel Grimson
