This wonderful group of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse ladies has been participating in a Workways Ways2 program, lead by Laila at Woodridge. They are taking the first steps in preparing for work by improving their English and technology skills, with Laila also guiding them in the navigation of services on government websites and community programs. At the end of the program, we were privileged to share a meal with the participants and hear what they have enjoyed most about Ways2 with Laila. Most of the participants enjoyed learning English and how to use technology like their phones. They all agreed Laila is a great teacher! They also appreciated the new friendships and sense of belonging they felt while attending the group. And the food was amazing! Indian tea, Somalian Mandazi, Iranian samosa. Everyone was so generous and gracious in sharing their food, culture, and experiences. We wish everyone all the best as they continue their learning path in preparation for joining the workforce.

From everyone at Workways - Wishing a joyous and prosperous Diwali to all who celebrate. Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most popular holidays in India. A celebration of good over evil, it is observed across faiths over five days with gatherings for prayer, feasts and fireworks displays, and marks the start of the Hindu New Year. The festival coincides with the new moon, the darkest night of the lunar cycle. Candles and clay lamps called diyas are lighted throughout homes and streets. Celebrations may vary depending on where the holiday is being celebrated, but all of the celebrations share lights, fireworks, feasting, new clothes and praying. May the divine light of Diwali spread peace, prosperity and good health.
