Congratulations Dino and Aaron from our Worldview Foundation Brisbane site who completed their first aid yesterday. This is a great achievement for both guys! Completing practical training that applies to work skills is a huge confidence booster.

Proud of our partnership with NSW Police Force to deliver Engage - a youth mentoring program. This week we had a number of the students complete work experience at WV Technologies within e-waste. Next up will be the young fellas completing a range of vocational training as they head into the end of the year completing their year 10. Many have aspirations to start employment with us in the new year as part of our intensive employment program that combines employment with wrap around support. Thanks to supporters: NSW Department of Education NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Peta McAlister

The Worldview team recently ventured to Birrigai for our fortnightly Men's Healing Day, facilitated by Uncle Jeffery Amatto. We were joined by current custodians, Uncle Joel and Uncle Luke, who guided our young men on a trek along the heritage "Truth Time Trail," highlighting the deep history of Aboriginal inhabitation in the region. Our journey took us to the ancient Birrigai Rock Shelter, initially believed to be around 3,000 years old. However, further studies revealed it has been inhabited for an astounding 21,000 years, marking it as a significant cultural site. Starting from the Tidbinbilla Visitors Centre, we walked through open grassy plains, passing remnants of more recent farming communities. Kangaroos and a few emus watched us as we made our way along the ridge, lined with rocky outcrops that offered stunning views of the valley below. After completing the walk, we returned to the Visitors Centre for a BBQ lunch. The day culminated in a powerful and motivational yarning circle, where conversations focused on pride in identity, a deeper understanding of Indigenous heritage, and how embracing this knowledge can pave the way to a bright and deadly future.

Albert Barker joined Worldview Foundation in 2018 as an original participant of our holistic employment program whereby he was supported with employment, housing, licencing, vocational training and wrap around support to turn around a life of crime and addiction. 6 years later and he now uses his lived experience to mentor the next generation and show them that there is another way. He's impacted so many with his example and the way he approaches mentoring. He's truly compassionate and understands what it's like to be in their shoes. Tell him you support Manly and he'll make the effort to share his full story. 😉

Week 6 for Engage at Blockhouse for Rock climbing. We had two experts leading the day in Matt and David who are former ADF and SAS workers who are also climbing experts. They've worked on SAS Australia and Alone Australia TV shows. Some of the outcomes included problem solving, motivation, communication, team work and physical challenges. Many of the young guys are thinking ahead to next year and we are working with them about plans transitioning out of school into employment. "R U OK?" is a question asked every day at Worldview. Today we participated in a R U OK day event with Gugan Gulwan and Joe Williams as the guest speaker. Every day in our holistic employment program we have a yarning circle right after smoko that involves everyone sharing from 1-10 how they're tracking on the day. It's an open and vulnerable environment whereby everyone knows they'll be supported if they're having a difficult day. We have witnessed the hard challenges that come with bad mental health and we've also seen the victories of when the right support is provided. That's when it means a lot!

The crew kicked off the Wodens's Monaro Highway Civil Taster Program. Today Jae Lear started delivering our life and employment skills workshops to help the participants not only prepare for work but also address any personal challenges holding them back from achieving their potential. Albert Barker share his journey and recognised familiar faces that he was able to encourage to take the opportunity with both hands. We're looking forward to seeing the participants progress as they're given an opportunity to turn their lives around.
In August, Wodens, in collaboration with our program partners, held two information sessions for the Wodens Monaro Highway Civil Taster Program. This program is a unique workforce participation model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and/or individuals that have had a connection with the AMC. With over 31 people attending the sessions, we are pleased to announce we have selected the final 15 participants. Wodens are committed to providing training and employment opportunities on the Monaro Highway Upgrade Project here in the ACT, and are happy to announce the program has now commenced! Special shout out to our amazing stakeholder partners on this program The Umbrella Collective, St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn, Worldview Foundation, Master Builders ACT, Training Fund Authority ACT, and Southern Training Organisation. And a special mention to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations for providing the funding to deliver this program #Wodens #ShapingTomorrowTogether #Civil #Pathways #TheUmbrellaCollective #Vinnies
